"What did you say?!" Nick Fury stared at Black Widow in front of him. He rose from his office chair, came around the desk to stand before her, and said, "The Mutants from the strike team didn't die, and their consciousnesses invaded the factory system?!"
Main Universe Black Widow nodded and said, "I've already sent you the relevant evidence. You can find a professional to assess it. But you should know we have no reason to lie about this."
Nick scrubbed hard at his face. "Can they control Mother Mold?"
"To be honest, we don't know either." Black Widow shook her head and said, "But Mutants are always stronger than we imagine. Just how they survived under those circumstances and uploaded their consciousnesses—no one can figure that out. Maybe this was their plan all along?"
That last sentence clearly hit Nick where it hurt. His expression darkened, and he gritted his teeth as he said, "This has to be Professor X's conspiracy. Only he could do it."
Black Widow thought the same now. After all, transforming living humans with physical bodies into consciousnesses and invading a certain system looked exactly like Professor X's field of research. All of humanity had been played by him.
"I'll notify the Avengers," Nick said. "Both sides of you sit down and talk this through. Stop always fighting and killing. After all, if it really is too late to salvage things, you may have to join forces to save Earth."
"It's not that bad yet," Black Widow said. "Mother Mold isn't that easy to control either. Maybe they're still locked in a tug-of-war. We still have a chance to wipe out those consciousnesses."
"I hope so." Nick shook his head.
A while later, the Avengers from the two universes sat together, looking at one another
