Even so, the Mutants did not make outrageous demands. Mainly because the other side really had nothing much to offer. Aside from lifting sanctions and formally establishing diplomatic relations, they only asked for some resources. They did not even dare ask for people, afraid the other side would plant moles among them.
Still, forcing the world's hegemon to bow its head truly let the Mutants vent their anger and boosted morale at the same time. After Charles cleared out the traitors, all of Krakoa Island became even more united.
Near-unlimited control over the seas brought many benefits. Aside from maritime trade, more merchant ships were willing to pass through their waters. The ocean around Krakoa Island was an absolutely safe zone. Since the Mutants did not become pirates themselves, naturally they would not allow other pirates to run wild here. Merchant ships ran no risk of being robbed, and because of the Mutants' neutral stance, even warships could come here for supplies.
Krakoa Island itself was scenic, and Erik led the Mutants in building a whole series of supporting service facilities, including large amounts of lodging, bars, and casinos. Just as they had planned before, this place became a heaven for sailors.
No one would be foolish enough to make trouble on Mutant turf. Even if someone got drunk, they could be subdued very easily. And, unsurprisingly, this place became a safe zone for certain black and gray trades.
Of course, these black and gray trades did not include drugs or human trafficking. Things like that could not get onto the island. It was mainly Mercenaries and intermediaries holding talks, along with commercial spies from various countries or without nationality, artifact smugglers, and fugitives from different nations.
This actually had both pros and cons. Although
