It could not be denied that the vast majority of Green Lanterns were righteous and helpful. The Green Lantern Corps divided the universe into many sectors, with Green Lanterns assigned to each sector to maintain cosmic order. Most of these Green Lanterns worked diligently and conscientiously, indeed making no small contribution to the security of the universe.
Put that way, Schiller exploiting the Green Lantern Corps seemed rather like something a villain would do. Although Schiller did not care whether anyone truly regarded him as a villain, he still had room to defend his actions. The little blue men had created a mechanical lifeform that slaughtered the civilizations of Sector 666, leaving only a handful of people in the entire sector. Atrocitus, a survivor whose rage over the destruction of his civilization had consumed him, was chosen by the red spectrum and became the Corps Leader of the Red Lantern Corps.
