After leaving Schiller's office, Lex began thinking about how to complete the assignment.

To be honest, he had never received any formal education. Everything he knew had been self-taught during the periods when he had escaped Lionel's control.

When his father had still been alive and drugging him, he would put on a show by hiring private tutors for him. But those tutors all knew they were merely tools Lionel used to display his fatherly love. Who would seriously teach such advanced knowledge to an autistic child? No one believed Lex could learn it, either.

So, he had no idea how research for an assignment was supposed to proceed. But setting aside all the prescribed procedures, as long as he could achieve the assignment's goal, Lex felt he could manage it.

First, he possessed practically unlimited wealth, which already solved most problems. No longer constrained by costs and able to focus solely on solving the problem, Lex could bring all his intelligence to bear. A sixteen-year-old genius believed that under such circumstances, there was nothing he could not do.

Before beginning his experiment, he needed to make some preparations. First, he needed to find a venue. Since he was now a student at Gotham University, Lex figured he ought to be able to borrow one of its laboratories.

Then he discovered that Gotham University's laboratories could no longer really be called laboratories. To put it tactfully, Gotham University's laboratories would have been just right for Galileo's experiments.

Gotham University had two old laboratory buildings behind the Academic Affairs Building. From the outside, both looked quite large: one was six stories high, the other seven, with more than twenty laboratories between them.
