He slit open its belly, stuffed it with apples and lemons, then placed the whole duck inside a larger coconut shell. After sealing the shell, he buried it in scorching-hot sand to braise the duck.

Hal had wanted to recreate Beef Wellington, but without ready-made starch, he could not make puff pastry, and there were no good ingredients for mushroom duxelles either, so he made a simplified version as well.

He trimmed the crusts off some toast, brushed butter over every layer, stacked four layers together and pinched them tight, then fried them until golden. He seasoned the steak with pepper, seared it to medium, spread it with seafood sauce, then wrapped it in the bread and fried it crisp.
