The sea breeze in Los Angeles was still gentle, even the sound of the wind carrying the rhythm of jazz. But the sunlight was not bright today. Dark clouds hung low, as if it might rain at any moment.
It was not good weather for sightseeing, but it was especially fitting for saying farewell to the dead. A funeral was being held on a stretch of lush green grass.
There were only a few people standing in the center of the grounds, but many more surrounded them. They held flowers in their hands, softly murmuring a name. Some were singing as well.
Schiller, dressed in a black suit, lowered his head. Beside him, Lucifer heard Schiller say quietly:
"Dear Lord, you chose Delilah to serve your holy son. In this world, she practiced charity through her singing and preached the gospel with her gentle voice..."
"Now that you have called her back to your side, grant that she may share your eternal feast in Heaven with all the saints, through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who with you and the Holy Spirit is the One God..."
Lucifer said disdainfully, "You're taking your prayer pretty seriously. A devout Christian, huh?"
Schiller ignored him completely, devoutly made the sign of the cross over his chest, and said, "Eternal Sky Father, amen."
After finishing his prayer, Schiller glanced sideways at Lucifer, who then heard him continue:
"Almighty and merciful God, your most beloved son, whom you created with your own hands, the First Light who followed after you created the world, the first Angel in this world, Lucifer Morningstar, drank until four in the morning last night. His behavior while drunk was atrocious. His ignorance shocked me. He did not even know who Hegel was..."
