"Spider-Man! Go stop them! Don't let the monsters hurt New York City's citizens!!!" Gwen held Dr. Dora's body, her eyes red as she said to Spider-Man, "Go! Save them..."
Spider-Man's arms trembled, but after pausing for only an instant, he swung down on his webbing and entered the battlefield of the two giant monsters.
The two nearly identical monsters wrecked countless buildings as they fought. Many people screamed beneath the rubble. Spider-Man moved the heavy debris covering them, but with traffic jammed, ambulances simply could not get in, and the injured could not be taken out.
Just then, sirens rang out. Several police cars came down the adjacent street and stopped at the intersection where Spider-Man was. The officers rushed from their vehicles. An old policeman holding a gun waved his hand and said to the officers beside him, "Quick, clear the road, then go save people!"
Spider-Man turned and saw the two monsters chasing each other across the skyline. The dust clouds raised by collapsing buildings were like morning mist, drifting away on the wind.
As he hesitated over whether to enter the battlefield or remain here to rescue people, he saw the old policeman running toward him. Only when the man emerged from the smoke did Spider-Man recognize Gwen's father, George.
"Spider-Man, get up ahead. There's a riot there, and you have to stop it. Leave this place to us."
Spider-Man glanced at him, then fired a web and swung onward. When he reached where the two monsters were fighting, he realized that the disturbance George had mentioned was an out-of-control train.
Debris on the tracks had caused the train's braking system to fail. The train, speeding at full tilt, could not stop immediately and was barreling straight toward the end of the street.
