"Come out of there now! Otherwise, we'll open fire!!"
Outside a shop in New York, several police officers stood between their patrol cars, aiming their guns at a man inside a bakery. He was a white man in his forties or fifties, looking like a father picking his daughter up from school, with a pink little backpack utterly mismatched to his age slung over one shoulder.
He kept waving backward, telling his daughter, who was choosing bread inside, not to come out. Raising both hands, he said, "What's going on, officers? What happened? What crime have I committed?"
"Someone reported that you used your Mutant abilities to endanger the safety of children at the local elementary school. Put down what you're holding, squat on the ground, and do not move. We need to search you!"
"Mutant abilities?" The man wore an utterly bewildered expression. "My ability is just that my fingernails can produce a little glue. What harm could that possibly cause?"
"Dad, I picked out the bread. Can we go now?" Behind him, the little girl in a dress tried to walk over. The man immediately pushed her back and said, "Eliza, wait! Don't come out! I need to talk to them!"
"Officers, you must have made a mistake. I don't have any powerful Mutant ability, and I couldn't possibly endanger any children. Today was the school's open day, so I went to my daughter's school to help her with a craft project..."
