Wayne Hospital, located in Gotham's South Side, was a top-tier private hospital funded by the Wayne Family. It was renowned across the East Coast, and for many wealthy outsiders, the only reason they came to Gotham was to seek treatment here.
But Bruce Wayne himself rarely came to this hospital. Even when he operated as Batman, including when he had rescued those children before, he had gone to Gotham Central Hospital rather than here.
That was because this hospital's honorary dean was still listed as Thomas Wayne. It had been established through investments by Mr. and Mrs. Wayne before their deaths.
Yet today, it had become exceptionally busy. One stretcher after another was wheeled into the operating rooms, the stench of blood filled the corridors, and even more bewildering and frighteningly, wails and screams kept coming from inside the operating rooms.
A corridor window was blown open by the wind, and a blast of cold air swept through the operating room door. Inside, surgical beds and lamps had been overturned. Bruce had one hand clamped around the neck of a patient covered in blood, holding him there until he gradually lost consciousness from suffocation.
Bruce withdrew his hand and stood up. Letting out a breath, he looked at the nurses huddled trembling in the corner and said, "Has Doctor Brand arrived? What about the other doctors and nurses from the Psychiatry Department? Get them here and prepare sedatives."
At that moment, the operating room door was pushed open, and the head nurse of the Psychiatry Department rushed in. Without the slightest concern for the mess scattered across the floor, she waved a hand with practiced ease and said, "Put him in a straitjacket. Prepare diazepam!"
