Looking at Batman's face, Zatanna shook her head. The reckless days of youth had long since drifted away like smoke. They had both been too young then, too immature to understand, and everything had simply happened.
Not long after Mr. and Mrs. Wayne died, Little Bruce had been in a terrible state of mind. To help him emerge from his grief, Alfred invited a very famous magician—Zatanna's father, Mr. Zatara—to perform at Wayne Manor.
Little Bruce had no interest in the performance at all. He slipped out through the back door of the hall and ran straight into Zatanna.
He was still deeply shaken at the time, so he told Zatanna about his grief. Zatanna felt great sympathy for him, and that was how the two of them formed a bond.
For a time before Bruce left to train abroad, they had been in a relationship. But later, Zatanna left without saying goodbye. Her father had vanished, and she needed to search for him. She did not want matters from the occult world to drag Bruce in, so she never told him The Truth. They parted ways and never saw each other again.
When they met again this time, they found that both of them had matured considerably. Neither looked like the young person the other remembered. Zatanna sighed, but as someone who had once been closest to Bruce, she could read his expressions and movements.
She moved closer to Batman, looked into his eyes, and said, "You know where the curse is, don't you? Why won't you tell us?"
Batman opened his mouth, then looked at Constantine and said, "Do you know whose mouth I last heard the word 'curse' from?"
"Who?"
"Schiller."
Batman sighed and said, "You must have noticed that many Gotham City residents have gone mad.
