Huff... huff...

Maximus stood at the bottom of the battered, ruined pit, breathing heavily.

His suit had been completely torn apart in the battle.

Blood ran down from his forehead, staining his face and body red as it flowed over the symbols of misfortune carved across his skin.

These symbols allowed him to stand steadily amid the torrent and manipulate it to a certain extent.

However,

the energy consumption was enormous, and this was his first time attempting to actively control misfortune.

Even at his peak, even in his youngest state, Maximus still felt exhausted.

His gaze remained fixed ahead, on the opponent who had endured over a hundred successive assaults of misfortune and was finally beginning to collapse.

But,

the dampness in the environment had not vanished.

The Hole abnormality that continuously acted upon the surface of his body, blocked by his combat suit, still remained—and had even become more active.

Something suddenly fell from above. Judging by its outline, it seemed to be a person.

Out of caution,

Maximus quickly stepped back to evade it.

The figure fell straight down and crashed heavily into the ground, its body seemingly shattered as blood continued to spill out.

It was the corpse of an infected monster, with a Hole structure at the back of its neck.

The Holes were rapidly breathing and writhing, as though something was about to crawl out of them.

Sensing danger, Maximus swiftly struck out with his palm.

This strike was not intended to kill directly.

Instead, his palm drove a wave of air pressure that affected the airflow throughout the pit. A massive boulder hanging precariously a hundred meters above suddenly broke loose with a thunderous crash.

It became a miniature meteor and utterly annihilated the dying monster.

The next second,

more monster corpses
