Those titles inevitably stirred all kinds of associations, and Duncan could no longer suppress his curiosity. He turned to the tall guide beside him. "What is their mission?"
"To enter the flow of time, confirm whether the shelter is operating according to the Creator's original blueprint within the known span of time, and determine the timestamp of the system's collapse."
The tomb guard spoke calmly as he resumed walking, leading Duncan deeper into the Tomb of the Nameless King.

Duncan abruptly looked up, his gaze sweeping over the ancient-style walls and pillars lining the corridor. Then he thought of something else. "What exactly is this place?"
The question felt strange the moment it left his mouth, because it sounded like he was asking something he already knew. Yet for some reason, he felt that the gravekeeper before him would understand what he meant.
The gravekeeper's steps paused for an imperceptible instant.
"This is the first Crete observation station—and it will also become the last," the deep, calm voice said in Duncan's ears. "Long, long ago, there were twelve hundred apocalypse observation stations of this kind, and we directly controlled ten of them."
Duncan froze for a moment. Then he suddenly recalled a passage he had once read—
