In the end, Duncan failed to dig up any more memories from Roen's mind.
Although the original owner of this body had truly cared about Nina, and matters related to Nina had indeed once been his most vivid memories, years of illness, hard liquor, and drug abuse had severely damaged them. By the time the cultist named Roen breathed his last, there was little warmth left in his numb mind concerning his family.
Only one thing was certain: eleven years ago, there really had been a fire in the Lower District. That fire had claimed Nina's birth parents and permanently changed the course of the child's life.
It might have been a coincidence, but there was another possibility: perhaps this matter truly had something to do with the "Sun Shard" those Sun Cultists were searching for.
The Sun Shard had appeared unexpectedly and sparked a fire in the city. Innocent citizens lost their lives, a child was orphaned in the blaze, and years later, that child's only remaining relative had fallen into depravity and become one of the cultists following the Sun Shard...
It was as if some cursed bond existed in the shadows, revolving around the sun like something trapped by gravity.
Just then, someone among the surrounding cultists suddenly spoke, interrupting Duncan's thoughts. "Over the past few days, I've asked around among the local residents. I haven't heard of any particularly famous fire in the Lower District eleven years ago... Someone did mention that a factory had a leak back then. Poison gas escaping from its storage tanks spread across several blocks, causing many people to hallucinate and go mad. It even made the papers at the time."
Duncan looked up in surprise and saw that the speaker was an ordinary-looking female cultist.
But before he could seriously
