Background

Zhou Yun was raised by divorced parents who considered him “useless trash” after their hopes for him went unmet. He developed a strong self-destructive tendency and a profound lack of empathy long before the death of his girlfriend. Without outside influence, he believed he might have become an antisocial criminal. 72 75

Before becoming involved in supernatural events, he was an average engineering student at Xianning Institute of Technology. He spent his free time reading web novels and silently checking in to the fan group of author Qing An Yan, never posting until the day he announced his name and intent to seek revenge. 72 73

His girlfriend was murdered after telling her best friend, Guo Qishuang, about winning a lottery jackpot. Zhou believed Guo had drowned her for the money, then became wealthy by claiming the prize herself. Though he preserved and held his girlfriend’s skeleton, Zhou later admitted that he had not loved her; the remains served as a projection for his negative emotions and need to find meaning. 73 75

Appearance

Zhou Yun has a clean, refined appearance that is frequently mistaken for feminine. His long dark hair and downcast posture once gave him a gloomy, mysterious image, though his confinement later softened that impression. 72 86 139

  • Peach blossom eyes and sharply defined willow-leaf eyebrows. 72
  • Delicate, almost feminine facial features; repeatedly mistaken for a woman. 72 74
  • Average height and build. 72
  • Often keeps medium-length hair over his face and wears subdued clothing, including a dark-blue hoodie. 72 139
  • Can manifest six pairs of detached, pure-white angelic wings through the Mental Inscription Fragment. 140

Personality

Zhou Yun is withdrawn, taciturn, and intensely solitary. He generally communicates only when necessary, later choosing to write on a board rather than speak. His coldness is indiscriminate rather than targeted: he does not readily seek companionship, assistance, or understanding from anyone. 82 86 238

He is exceptionally ruthless toward both enemies and himself. During combat, he treats his body as a disposable shell, remaining calm through severe injury and using self-destructive tactics without hesitation. 74 155

Despite his distorted moral outlook and revenge-driven violence, Zhou maintains a personal boundary: he refuses to harm others for personal gain or disregard universal values merely because he can. After his resurrection, he declines to kill Guo Qishuang again. 76

Qing An Yan’s writing and guidance significantly changed him. Zhou views the author as a life mentor whose books taught him ways to think through problems rather than giving him simple answers. 74 75

Abilities & Skills

Mental Inscription Fragment

A shattered mental inscription fused with Zhou Yun and reached 1% completeness during the Xuanmu Mountain incident. 140

  • Produces a cross-shaped light seal and six pairs of white wings. 140
  • Improves his sensory and physical capabilities across the board. 152
  • Lets him access and employ the Power of Belief. 140 311
  • Its known completeness is only 1%; its full functions and origin remain unclear. 140

Nano Repair Technique

Zhou can use the Power of Belief to perform the Nano Repair Technique, which repairs injuries beyond normal physical limits. 140 311

  • He healed an injured man shortly after awakening the fragment. 140
  • Allows him to ignore bodily strain and continue extreme training. 311
  • Its use depends on available Power of Belief. 140

Power of Belief

Zhou’s Soul Power recovers rapidly when believers’ positive emotions resonate with him. Followers of the Yahweh Church regard him as a spokesperson for Yahweh, alongside Phoenix. 153

  • The effect is connected to a 7.7 Hz “Dao Rhyme” brainwave. 153
  • Its effective range is geographically limited; during the Xuanmu Mountain event, it drew only from believers present on the mountain. 153
  • Zhou can use it to alter reality through the Nano Repair Technique. 311

Superhuman Physique and Combat

Zhou’s enhanced body allows him to overwhelm most opponents through raw attributes. 152

  • His strength, speed, endurance, senses, explosive power, and flexibility all improved after obtaining the Mental Inscription Fragment. 152
  • He fought in more than a thousand battles during the Fierce Battle stage, where his self-destructive ruthlessness became his defining combat trait. 155
  • He can use a vocal technique to project his voice across more than half of Sky City, though doing so damages him. 265
  • He is proficient with a sword, once exploiting an opening to pierce Yan Anqing’s right eye in battle. 301

Mental Power

Zhou Yun’s measured mental power is approximately 63 points, comparable to Ma Ran and Yu Hongyi. 312

  • This exceeds the level of leading scientists. 312
  • It remains below the 100-point threshold required to effectively absorb and use Entropy Qi. 312

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Writing board and pen — His preferred method of communication after the Black and White Impermanence Incident. 86
  • Concealed dagger — Used to stab Guo Qishuang during their confrontation. 74
  • Mental Inscription Fragment — A 1%-complete shattered inscription that grants his wings, physical enhancements, and belief-based abilities. 140

Relationships

  • Yan Anqing / Qing An Yan — Zhou’s life mentor through Qing An Yan’s novels and reader group discussions. He refused to communicate with anyone else while detained and specifically requested to meet Yan. 74 82 86
  • Unnamed girlfriend — His deceased girlfriend, whose murder motivated his pursuit of Guo Qishuang. Zhou later recognized that he had not loved her and had used her remains to project his own negative emotions. 73 75
  • Guo Qishuang — His girlfriend’s former best friend and the person Zhou believed murdered her for lottery money. He fatally stabbed her, died alongside her, and later refused to kill her again after his own resurrection. 73 74 76
  • Lin Aolong — Fellow reader-group member and SYS associate. Lin defended Zhou from contestants who believed he was linked to an alien conspiracy. 139 352
  • Phoenix — Another figure regarded as a spokesperson for Yahweh. Their unusually similar tournament performances and Soul Power recovery made Zhou suspect a connection. 153
  • Choi Sang-hwan — SYS teammate whose temporary cooperation with Zhou was notably poor due to Zhou’s extreme introversion. 238

Story Role / Major Arcs

Black and White Impermanence Incident

Zhou tracks Guo Qishuang to her dormitory at Xianning Institute of Technology and charges through her flames to stab her in the heart. His own body is severely burned, and both die in the confrontation. 74

Black and White Impermanence-like cloud figures enter both bodies and repair their wounds, but only Zhou regains consciousness. Guo later disappears in front of witnesses, leaving her final fate unresolved. 75 76

Detention and Silence

Following the incident, Zhou is held in custody while the public speculates about the reason for his resurrection. He refuses food, drink, and communication when others are present, agreeing to interact only with Yan Anqing. 82

When Yan visits, Zhou communicates through a pen and writing board, explaining simply that he likes solitude. Yan asks authorities not to pressure him after the trial. 86

Lucifer Rumors and Xuanmu Mountain

A twelve-winged mechanical alien lifeform seen over Washington, D.C. bears Zhou’s face, causing international speculation that he is connected to “Lucifer.” Zhou denies any link, noting that he was under continuous confinement and possessed neither wings nor superhuman cells at the time. 124

At Xuanmu Mountain, contestants target him over the alleged alien conspiracy until Lin Aolong intervenes. A cross-shaped light seal then awakens Zhou’s Mental Inscription Fragment and angelic wings. 139 140

Earth Ranking Tournament

The fragment’s physical enhancements allow Zhou to overpower most opponents in the Fierce Battle stage; only Negrid Hawk is described as capable of matching his basic physical statistics. 152

During the tournament, Zhou’s ruthless fighting style becomes internationally recognized. His Soul Power also receives intermittent recovery from nearby believers who see him as Yahweh’s representative. 153 155

SYS Operations

Zhou later represents the SYS Secret Meeting alongside Lin Aolong and continues to communicate primarily through writing. 235

He participates in combat missions and battlefield operations, including exposing a limitation of Annihilation Warriors and defeating Yan Anqing’s combat avatar with a precise sword strike. 265 301
