The three Demon Race chiefs had yet to decide who would become the commander of this demon legion. Bikas was nominally the leader, but both Mons and Zarha wanted to replace him. The only way to do that was to kill him.
Bikas knew this perfectly well. Thus, the tacit smiles shared by the three were built upon their awareness of each other's intentions.
"Woooo—!"
A mournful horn sounded. The elite demons attacking through the Wild Wolf Valley passage all looked startled, then reluctantly raised their shields and slowly retreated.
Turbid Wine watched the demons leave in surprise, then grabbed Lonely Sorrow at World's End, who wanted to chase after them and keep fighting. "Don't pursue them. Rest for a while."
Lonely Sorrow at World's End's eyes were bloodshot. Of the hundred brothers behind him, only a little over sixty remained alive.
Unlike Turbid Wine, who was often by Lu Yang's side, Lonely Sorrow at World's End had always led his brothers on all kinds of missions. From the most basic patrols and burning the corpses of creatures from other worlds to heading out to fight in battles, he had forged the deepest bonds with these brothers. He could accept dying himself, but he could not bear to see them die.
"I won't accept this. I won't accept this." Lonely Sorrow at World's End kept repeating the same words.
Turbid Wine firmly patted his shoulder, then looked at the brothers behind him and shouted, "Everyone, rest where you are. The enemy may charge again at any time. Don't grieve, don't be angry. Remember: do everything you can to survive."
"Ohhh~!" The sixty-odd remaining brothers were already exhausted. Fighting demons three meters tall had drained them dry, and they all sat down on the ground.
