Lu Yang had to kill the Demon God's remnant soul as quickly as possible. He could already feel that the Thunderfire Liquid was about to complete the final tempering of his body and raise him to Demigod Tier.
If he could not kill the Demon God's remnant soul before then, the instant Lu Yang advanced to Demigod Tier—when his consciousness could no longer control itself—the remnant soul would break through the space and escape through the connection between soul and body to any part of the Demon God Body.
At that point, Lu Yang would have no way to hunt it down. Unless the Demon God's remnant soul wished to die, it could roam freely within the Demon God Body forever. Since part of it belonged to this body, it would not be rejected.
If that happened, Lu Yang would never be able to fully control his body again. He would have to make peace with the Demon God's remnant soul. Otherwise, in any battle, Lu Yang could be ambushed by it.
As long as Lu Yang released magic power through his body, the Demon God's remnant soul could control the body at the same time and cancel the spell.
