Japan had not even attacked Australia back then. England had told them to join the war. Australia barely had an army at the time and had drafted soldiers specifically to participate. They had essentially launched themselves into the war, but who had they been fighting for?

Even Australians themselves were confused. On their World War II tombstones, they wrote that they had fought for the war they were supposed to fight—World War II. What kind of nonsense was that?
