"Ahhh! My legs! I can't move my legs! I can't feel them!"
"So cold! What's with this freezing air?"
"Q-Quick... shoot him! There's something wrong with this kid!"
"Damn it! The guns are frozen too! We can't even pull them out!"
Amid their panicked screams, the four Cabelli family members were instantly plunged into boundless terror.
Faced with a mysterious power they could not comprehend, these seemingly tough and vicious mobsters were no different from most Ordinary People. They were afraid too, and they would hysterically beg others for help.
Unfortunately, everyone in the hotel's first-floor lobby had been frightened away. In barely a minute or two, the place had been completely cleared out.
At the same time, the cold produced by Nen abilities was rapidly spreading.
Before long, it had risen past their abdomens and was advancing toward their chests and necks. It would not be long before their entire bodies were frozen.
Seeing the despair in the four men's eyes, Allen felt that their psychological defenses had already crumbled. Only then did he stop using his Nen abilities and ask expressionlessly, "Last chance. Tell me where Marcus Cabelli is."
"Mr. Marcus is in a room on the very top floor of the hotel! Spare us! We're just underlings!"
"That's right! We're just lackeys! Whatever grudge you have, go find him directly."
In order to survive, the suited thugs no longer cared about the "pride" and "rules" they usually valued so dearly. They hurriedly revealed the location of their mafia family boss.
After all, they were merely making a living. At most, they relied on their underworld status to bully and intimidate Ordinary People. They were fundamentally different from truly lawless desperadoes.
Moreover, according to the Hunter World's rules, those who had not mastered Nen abilities simply could not contend with Nen users. Choosing to admit defeat and ensure they stayed alive was the normal choice.
"So he really is in this hotel. Looks like my tracking was correct. Thank you. One final reminder: call an ambulance quickly, or you may face a very high risk of sudden death or amputation. My ability is far more than mere cold and freezing."
After saying that, Allen stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for the thirtieth floor. As the doors closed, he even waved goodbye to the four men frozen in place.
Meanwhile, the disturbance in the first-floor lobby had long since been reported by the security personnel to Marcus Cabelli, who was enjoying red wine and fine food on the top floor.
When the slightly overweight mafia family boss saw footage of his men being frozen by icy air on the monitor, his expression changed dramatically. He immediately ordered the bodyguards behind him, "Bring everyone! Stop that guy at the elevator doors! Remember! The moment the elevator opens, fire! Empty every round in your magazines in one go! Do not pause for even a second! Understand?"
"Understood! Please rest assured, no matter who sent him, he's as good as dead today." The bodyguard pulled out a handsome pistol, disengaged the safety, and gave his assurance with complete confidence.
Less than ten seconds later, he had led more than twenty men to guard the elevator doors, forming a dense crossfire net.
Ding!
The instant the elevator doors opened with a crisp chime, more than twenty pistols fired at once, creating a deadly metallic storm.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
For a moment, gunshots, muzzle flashes, and the smell of gunpowder filled the entire corridor.
Once everyone had emptied every bullet from their magazines and stopped to see whether the person in the elevator was dead, they suddenly heard an emotionless voice ring out beside their ears.
"Go! Tear them apart!"
The next second...
"Awoo!!!!!!!"
A gigantic wolf covered from head to toe in blackish-purple energy charged out of the elevator. It pounced on the man directing the group, pinned him to the ground, and bit through his neck. The wound blackened, rotted, and began to stink at a visible rate.
Without a doubt, that was the most terrifying aspect of Shadow Energy: its corrosion of the body and even the soul.
"M-Monster!"
"Fire! Fire now! Don't let it get close!"
"Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!"
The mobsters clearly had no time to observe such details. All of them shouted as they changed magazines and fired wildly, trying to kill the terrifying unknown creature.
But pistol bullets were simply too weak. On top of that, Lupos had used the pet skill "Assault," and his Running Speed was so fast that he was nearly impossible to see clearly. There was no way to aim at him.
The result was hardly surprising!
In less than a minute, all twenty-plus mob gunmen were dead. The corridor outside the elevator was littered with corpses strewn every which way, while thick dark-red blood splattered across the walls, floor, and ceiling.
Under the corrosion of Shadow Energy, they were rapidly turning black, rotting, and giving off a foul stench. The place was no different from hell.
"Nicely done!"
Allen emerged from the elevator, casually tossed aside a blue-and-white translucent substance shaped like a shield, and patted Lupos on the head in praise.
Clearly, he had used that thing to block the sustained pistol fire earlier. Its surface even bore shallow, pitted bullet marks.
Once the mysterious substance left the control of his Nen abilities, it immediately began absorbing heat from its surroundings and evaporated at an unbelievable speed. In just a minute or two, it vanished without a trace, leaving behind only widespread silvery frost and bone-piercing cold.
The nearest metal elevator doors had become as brittle as puffed snacks, shattering into several pieces at the slightest touch.
"Whimper, whimper—"
The Shadow Wolf King released his Shadow Form, stretched out his tongue, and gently licked his master's palm to show affection.
"Let's go. Let's have a proper face-to-face talk with Marcus Cabelli. After seeing our strength, I'm sure he won't do anything foolish."
After saying that, Allen walked through the corridor filled with mangled corpses and biting cold, arriving directly before a heavy alloy blast door as thick as a bank vault door.
There was no need to ask. Mafia boss Marcus Cabelli was hiding behind that door.
Through the Hunter Skill "Track Humanoid," he could clearly see the red dot in the room named Marcus Cabelli.
Normally, unless one used extremely powerful explosives, even an Enhancement-type Nen user would find it difficult to destroy a blast door of such thickness through brute force.
Yet Allen merely raised his right hand toward the cold metal door and unleashed his Transmutation-type Nen ability.
In less than a minute, the door began to glow red and emit terrifying heat. Finally, before the dumbfounded eyes of those inside, it melted into a pool of scorching molten iron.
Fortunately, the floor was paved with marble rather than wood. Otherwise, it would have caused a massive fire without question.
Admiring the panic, fear, and disbelief on the other man's face, Allen could not help smiling. "Incredible, isn't it? You must know, knowledge is power. What seems incomprehensible to you is merely basic physics to me. Now, I believe we can finally sit down and have a proper talk."
"A... a Nen user!"
Marcus Cabelli forced out the words from his throat and collapsed back onto the sofa.
As a mafia executive qualified to attend underground Auctions, he naturally knew about the mysterious, powerful, terrifying Shadow Beasts unit under the Ten Dons' command. He also knew how frightening Nen abilities were.
Especially this boy, around fourteen years old, who had melted a blast door as sturdy as a bank vault into molten iron in such a short time, while also possessing what seemed to be an ability that created ultra-low temperatures.
The silver giant wolf beside him was no less formidable. In under a minute, it had slaughtered more than twenty of his most elite gunmen and bodyguards.
Faced with such a combination, he had already begun uncontrollably wondering whom he had offended recently that he should not have offended, to the point that they had hired experts to kill him...
