He certainly did not think that a civilization so obviously more advanced than theirs would accept "inferior" currency printed on pieces of paper.

"Sorry, but those pieces of waste paper covered in colorful patterns are meaningless to us. All transactions in the Wonderful House must follow one principle: equivalent exchange. Whatever value you wish to take away, you must pay an equal price. That price can be rare metals, technology, knowledge, magical items, or even souls. But paper currency alone will not do! It possesses no value itself, and even in your world, its purchasing power is still declining at an alarming rate."
"US Dollars are... waste paper?!"
Coulson's mouth twitched slightly when he heard that.
Obviously, this was the first time in his life—and likely the last—that he had heard someone describe US Dollars in such a contemptuous manner.
But after calming down and thinking it over, the other party did seem to have a point.
After all, a hundred years ago, one dollar could buy a pair of exquisite handmade leather shoes.
But now?
In a place with high prices like New York, one dollar was not even enough to buy a fried egg.
After realizing this, Coulson immediately put on a helpless expression. "I may disappoint you, but I don't think I can afford anything here."
