Luo Feng had no time to experience the power of the Blade fragment, so he did not know exactly how it felt. But from Jin Yu's words, he knew it was something exceptionally precious.
One had to know that even Wood Crystals, which could easily allow a War God to break through to the Planetary level, had not seemed particularly important to Jin Yu. Yet he had rarely described this fragment as precious, which said enough.
Over nine thousand meters... ten thousand meters... eleven thousand meters... twelve thousand meters...
They continued deeper!
Finally, fifteen thousand meters!
"Target has arrived."
"Hide and close the hatch."
Deep underground, countless layers of rock had accumulated. Yet at that moment, one thick slab of rock began to tremble and writhe. Then, with a whoosh, as though a bubble had been blown apart, the thick rock directly turned into nothingness and vanished. In the place where it had been...
A half-open hatch covered in dust appeared!
Jin Yu cooperatively continued heading deeper underground. If there had been a god's-eye view, one would have seen that he was steadily approaching the ancient hatch.
Boom!
Mental power shoved aside a block of rock before him. Jin Yu turned his head. Though it was dark, the eyesight of a Planetary-level powerhouse still allowed him to see what seemed to be metal within a narrow crevice beside him.
He then controlled his Mental power and violently forced apart the massive amount of surrounding rock, instantly creating a passage wide enough for two people to walk side by side. At the end of the passage... stood a strange silver-white metal "door" covered in dust. This "door," similar to the hatch of an Intelligent fighter jet, was currently half-closed.
"We've finally arrived." Jin Yu completely relaxed and transmitted his voice to Luo Feng beside him.
"We're here?" Luo Feng shuddered. Could this be the Ancient Ruins Big Brother Jin had mentioned?
A dust-covered door had appeared more than ten thousand meters underground? It really could be the ruins of an ancient civilization never before discovered on Earth!
And was there any danger inside?
Before Luo Feng could sort out his thoughts, Jin Yu grabbed his arm and pulled him forward.
Dragged along by Jin Yu, the two of them walked step by step to the hatch.
Inside the hatch was a passage roughly twelve meters wide and eight meters deep. At the end of the passage was a broad corridor running left and right. Jin Yu released Luo Feng and continued forward.
Luo Feng swallowed.
"Wood Crystals! So many Wood Crystals!" Luo Feng looked down before him.
On the floor of the hatch entrance passage, crystal after crystal with faint white halos had gathered together. Ten, twenty, thirty... densely packed. The rich scent of rice filled Luo Feng's nostrils the instant he stepped through the hatch, nearly making him suffocate!
Seeing Jin Yu continue forward as though it were nothing, Luo Feng once again upheld the principle of not wasting anything. He used his Mental power to swiftly collect the clustered, half-floating Wood Crystals one by one into the black backpack on his back.
As he picked up the Wood Crystals, Luo Feng counted them as well.
"289!" After placing the final Wood Crystal into his backpack, Luo Feng could still feel his heart pounding wildly, the sound like a heavy hammer striking a drum.
In just this short time, they had gained far more than the two of them had collected previously combined.
"There are already 289 at the hatch. Who knows what else is inside."
Luo Feng was full of anticipation. An ancient civilization ruin could not possibly contain only Wood Crystals... Still, the sheer number of Wood Crystals at the hatch alone proved one thing: this ancient civilization ruin had to be incredibly wealthy! Far wealthier than most of the other ruins discovered on Earth.
He then jogged to catch up with Jin Yu ahead of him.
Following the entrance passage, Luo Feng cautiously advanced behind Jin Yu. The ground had long been covered in a layer of dust.
At the end of the entrance passage was a broad corridor extending left and right.
The moment Luo Feng stepped into the intersection and looked in both directions, he froze. "Th-that..."
In the passage to Luo Feng's left, the walls were forged from strange metal. Yet those walls now bore huge sunken fist marks, nine enormous fist marks in total.
And on the floor of the passage lay a gigantic corpse, half leaning against the corridor wall!
"What's there to look at? It's been dead for ages." Jin Yu patted the stunned Luo Feng and continued walking forward.
Luo Feng did not answer. He held his breath and carefully examined the enormous corpse. Its skin was dark, its arms thick and powerful, and its entire body was covered in a special battle armor containing intricate secret patterns. It also wore special gloves over its fists, while its pair of blood-red eyes remained wide open in fury.
"Ahem, it's dead anyway. These gauntlets should be good stuff too." Luo Feng glanced at Jin Yu, who was continuing onward. After hesitating for a moment, he quickly removed the two gauntlets from the corpse's hands. Each one had a diameter of over forty centimeters, instantly stuffing his backpack full.
Their terrifying weight also told Luo Feng they were valuable. They definitely weighed more than ten tons.
If the backpack had not been part of the Black God Set, it would probably have torn apart immediately.
However, while taking the gauntlets, Luo Feng accidentally met the corpse's gaze. His heart could not help but tremble, as though an ant were facing a dragon...
Even though it was only a corpse, even though those eyes no longer possessed their former sharpness, even though it had been dead for who knew how many years... the lingering trace of its former might alone made Luo Feng tremble. Cold sweat instantly seeped from his back and forehead.
"W-what level of powerhouse was this? It's too terrifying." Luo Feng sucked in a cold breath.
"Hurry up and go."
Luo Feng found that he simply could not meet the corpse's eyes. Once he did, no matter how much he tried to calm himself, he would still uncontrollably feel fear. It was fear born from the difference in the levels of life! No amount of willpower could overcome it.
This Immortal Black Ape-like powerhouse could never have imagined that one day, an ant would loot his corpse.
"I'll take a look inside. Big Brother Jin should know something."
Luo Feng did not rush to investigate the corpse. Instead, he walked past the towering body and quickly chased after Jin Yu. Along this broad corridor, they encountered no obstructions. There were also branching paths along the sides, but Luo Feng continued following Jin Yu down the widest corridor.
After walking roughly three hundred meters, the corridor began to turn, and then a massive door appeared!
The door was more than ten meters wide and more than ten meters tall. It was currently half-open.
"This is..."
Luo Feng tried not to make any sound as he entered through the door.
"My god." Luo Feng could not help sucking in a cold breath. This was a magnificent, super-sized semicircular hall dozens of meters high and roughly two hundred meters long and wide. What shocked Luo Feng most was... there were actually five strangely shaped corpses in the hall! No... to be precise, there were six corpses!
Five of the corpses, like the previous black ape, looked lifelike without the slightest sign of decay.
The sixth corpse, however, was reduced to golden bones. Its skin, hair, and everything else had long since turned to ash.
"It really is an ancient ruin. Earth's history has never recorded such towering beings."
Luo Feng found that one of the corpses was very similar to the one discovered beside the entrance passage, though slightly slimmer. It resembled a giant black ape and stood around six meters tall. The second corpse had a body similar to a human's, standing around four meters tall, with black scales covering its entire body, a single horn on its forehead, and a scaled tail!
The third corpse also resembled a human, except it was six meters tall. Its skin looked like a tortoise shell, much like the Thing from the old American movie Fantastic Four that Luo Feng knew of. However, this corpse was clearly better-looking than the Thing. Its shell-like plates gleamed with oil-like luster, fitting together like an incredibly sophisticated battle armor.
The fourth corpse was practically identical to an Earth human!
Yellow skin, black hair, and a scar on his face. He sat cross-legged on the ground in perfect calm, covered in a layer of dust.
"An Earthling? A Chinese person?" Luo Feng stared at the fourth corpse, both curious and regretful.
Luo Feng could sense that... although the man had been dead for a very, very long time, the faint lingering might emanating from his corpse still made one's heart tremble! This was a true peerless powerhouse! He did not seem any weaker than the corpse at the entrance.
Moreover, this man looked almost exactly like a Chinese person, making Luo Feng even more regretful that he was dead.
"This fifth corpse?"
Luo Feng looked at it in confusion.
"What are you looking at?" Just as Luo Feng was still examining the corpses, Jin Yu saw him dawdling and directly hooked an arm around his neck, dragging him onward. "Finish the important business before you keep looking."
The first sentence was spoken aloud, but Jin Yu transmitted the latter sentence to Luo Feng through Mental power.
Luo Feng's heart stirred. He understood that Jin Yu was worried some hidden presence might overhear them. So he silently followed Jin Yu's steps.
The two of them had now arrived at the center of the hall.
The hall was empty. Only the floor and ceiling had occasional dents, seemingly left behind by a battle.
Beep!
A sound rang out.
"Hm?" Luo Feng was startled and instinctively prepared to counterattack.
"Don't panic." Jin Yu pressed a hand on his shoulder and transmitted his voice.
The reason he had been transmitting his voice all along was that he feared Babata would grow suspicious. If it suspected the two of them were enemies or threats, who knew whether it might suddenly decide to kill them?
It would not matter if he died; he could just be revived later. But if Luo Feng died, he would cry himself to death.
So all they could do for now was adapt to the situation and wait patiently. Then they would trick Babata, that old schemer who had lived for tens of millions of years, into joining them.
