"Renard's true objective?"
No one was particularly surprised by Xiao Ran's words, and their expressions did not change much. Perhaps most of those present had long suspected that Renard, who had seemed more like a scholar back in Nouvel Tokyo City and more like an advisor aboard the Nadeshiko, who had been able to remain at Xiao Ran's side, might not truly be a bad person. Perhaps he had merely been forced to join Amalgam in pursuit of some goal.
But that only applied to most of those present. Tessa and Richard of Mithril were exceptions. They might not have known much about Renard, but they certainly knew more than anyone else present aside from Xiao Ran. As one of Amalgam's leaders, Renard's crimes were something the two of them had personally experienced.
Thus, when Xiao Ran mentioned Renard's objective, both of them showed looks of confusion or deep thought.
Tessa did not understand, so she asked, "What does his objective have to do with the Federation and New Zeon? Why did you bring up the Federation and New Zeon?"
"Of course it has a great deal to do with them. There is no denying that, in some respects, Renard's methods were excessively extreme. Perhaps it was related to the blows he suffered in childhood—blows that you, Tessa, know absolutely nothing about. But his goal had always been clear. To achieve it, he did not care whether he fell into darkness."
"You two were siblings, yet because Renard came into contact with events that you had never encountered or understood, one of you, who came to understand everything, ultimately became darkness, while the other innocently believed in the world's beauty and looked forward to the light. But do you understand what kind of obsession someone yearning for
