Since they could not damage the Worm Monsters, they rationally shifted their fire and began attacking the octopus-, insect-, and starfish-like Invasion Beasts first. Compared to the Worm Monsters, these creatures looked smaller, though even the smallest were dozens of meters long, and were easier to deal with.
The insect-like creatures, which were the most numerous, had defenses that ranked in the middle among the three types. Their thick shells meant they could not be killed with just one or two ordinary attacks. The starfish-shaped Invasion Beasts, with the weakest defenses, lacked the shells of the other two. Attacks often pierced holes straight through their bodies, spilling black liquid like blood.
The toughest were the octopus-like Invasion Beasts that carried Conch Shell-like shells. Once they withdrew all their tentacles into those shells, ordinary attacks could not leave even the slightest damage. Only attacks with the power of a battleship's main guns could destroy such monsters in a single strike.
Everyone had the same plan: since the Worm Monsters could not be harmed, they would first wipe out all the other Invasion Beasts, then gather all their strength to focus on the worms. That would quickly ease the fleet's pressure and reduce the threat. They only needed enough personnel to delay the worms' advance as much as possible. No one had truly communicated this plan, yet they all acted in perfect unspoken coordination.
Getter Robo was the first to charge at one of the worms. It turned into a black shadow too fast to follow, gripping a long axe as it spun rapidly around the Worm Monster. It seemed to stir whirlwinds and shockwaves even in space, leaving streak after streak of pale marks on the worm's body. Yet it could not break through the terrifying armor that looked soft but
