The moment Xiao Ran finished speaking, the entire classroom seemed to fall completely silent. Not only did the quiet whispers cease, even breathing appeared to stop. The expressions of the trainees from PLNAT and Orb, including Athrun, all froze. They looked utterly bewildered, as though they had suddenly turned into fools.
Of course, none of them were fools. Fools would never have appeared before Xiao Ran. It was simply that what Xiao Ran had said was too unbelievable. Aside from Katia, Tinia, and Melua, who had long known Xiao Ran's intentions, no one else present could believe what they had heard.
Orb had never possessed either the confidence or the intention to confront the Alliance, much less dismantle it. Even ZAFT as it stood now did not have the strength to accomplish such a thing. The Alliance might not encompass the entire Earth, but it controlled more than half of it. How could it possibly be dismantled just because Xiao Ran said so?
The current war between ZAFT and the Alliance was more about gaining an advantage and suppressing the other side. It was nowhere near the point of dismantling or eliminating either faction. To everyone present, Xiao Ran's words sounded like a dream.
"Dismantle the Alliance?"
However, although they were merely trainees, they were still half-soldiers at the very least. They had to abide by the rules soldiers were expected to follow. No matter how shaken, stunned, or incredulous they felt, they did not start making a commotion in the classroom.
The Orb trainees had been instructed from the moment they arrived to obey the orders of the officers here without question. The atmosphere among them was not as relaxed as it was on the ZAFT side, so the Orb trainees merely exchanged looks of disbelief.
