Asaha still did not agree to have Xiao Ran directly involve himself in the war between ZAFT and the Alliance, but he changed his tone and agreed to provide assistance for Xiao Ran's actions.
Orb would not participate in another nation's war; that was its principle. Asaha was exceptionally stubborn when it came to upholding principles, and Xiao Ran knew that well. But that did not mean Orb would merely trail behind and pick up scraps. In fact, aside from war, there were many difficult tasks that Orb needed to handle. Following behind to maintain stability would at most earn Orb a good reputation.
Without Xiao Ran charging ahead and controlling the overall situation, though, doing so would simply be more trouble than it was worth for Orb. Not only would it gain little, but the spoils would certainly fall into ZAFT's hands as it followed closely behind Xiao Ran. Meanwhile, Orb itself would have to pay a greater price, whether in supplies, manpower, or anything else.
Xiao Ran understood that, but he already had a clear idea of whether Orb would become involved in the war later. Once extraterrestrial lifeforms or enemies other than the Alliance appeared on Earth, and the situation grew large enough to plunge the whole world into crisis, Orb would be forced by the circumstances to join the war even if it did not want to. At most, it simply would not target the Alliance.
By then, Xiao Ran would be dealing with the Alliance while alien forces and other evil factions emerged. The Alliance would no longer have the strength to control more territory.
