The machine itself remained largely intact, and whether the pilot lived or died was not particularly important. However, there was a crucial component directly behind the cockpit. Xiao Ran had his eye on the machine itself, so that was the only place he could attack. Of course, it would have been fine to chop off all its limbs too, and that was exactly what Xiao Ran did next. Raising Mazinger Kaiser's left arm and reconnecting it to the left hand gripping the greatsword, he swung once and sliced off the Grim Reaper Mecha's legs.
