The Capital Defense Force was not the strongest armed force in the Zeon capital, but compared to the Guard Force—young men who were arrogant, overestimated themselves, held themselves above others, and had never truly experienced war or faced an enemy—the defense force, composed of veteran battlefield commanders and elite old soldiers, was in an entirely different league in terms of combat skill, enemy experience, and methods, even if their equipment was inferior.
Combined with the sudden betrayal and long-planned preparations, the Guard Force's garrisons were isolated layer by layer by the Capital Defense Force at the very first moment. The utterly unprepared Guard Force members suffered greatly. During the confrontation, the defense force veterans did not excessively use actual firearms against these high-and-mighty youngsters of the Guard Force.
Instead, they suppressed the Guard Force members with smoke grenades, tear gas, and sleeping gas. Although attacks on the Guard Force were unavoidable during the operation, unless absolutely necessary, they tried their best to avoid seriously injuring or directly killing the young guards. In the hearts of these veterans, the Guard Force's young men were also exceptionally capable. Though they were loyal to the Zabi family and stood on a different side, they were still Zeon soldiers and Zeon's future.
As a result, although the Guard Force suffered considerably during the defense force's operation, and many were injured by the veterans' "heavy-handed" treatment, few sustained serious injuries. Even fewer were killed, and all of them had brought it upon themselves.
But the Guard Force members, arrogant and full of themselves, treated the Capital Defense Force veterans entirely differently. They viewed them as rebels. Those with weapons showed absolutely no mercy when facing the veterans' attack, as if they wanted to kill every single member of the defense force.
