It had to be said that many things happened during the writing process, both within the novel and in real life. This book led A Fei to make choices at a Fork in the Road of life that differed somewhat from those of others.

Let me tell everyone a little about how it all began. The initial inspiration for this book actually came from a rather serious trauma in A Fei's life. At my undergraduate graduation party, A Fei drank too much. In fact, I had a girlfriend who had been with me throughout all four years of college. A Fei was going on to graduate school, while she was going to work. As a man, my girl was out earning a salary while I was still studying at school.

That pressure was truly immense, and during our final semester, our relationship was not doing very well either.

At the time, I had pulled an all-nighter the day before and had no idea how much I drank, so my head was quite dizzy. I foolishly knocked over my wineglass, and a shard of glass accidentally sliced deeply into my right palm. Several nerves were severed, along with several tendons and blood vessels. It was a fairly serious injury.

Unfortunately, A Fei had no blood energy and could only recover slowly.

After a prompt two-hour operation, A Fei lay in the hospital bed. Our class monitor even stayed up to watch over me all night. I was deeply grateful.
