Fusion with the Blacklight Virus

"Where am I?"

Chang Wei stared dumbfoundedly at the skyscrapers in front of him. It was not that he had come from the countryside and never seen the world, but every sign around him was in English, leaving Chang Wei at a loss.

There was none of the familiar Chinese writing all over the streets, and the passersby were all foreigners. Their expressions as they looked at him were somewhat strange. Chang Wei knew that look well, because back home, people around him wore the same expression whenever they saw foreigners.

Except now, he was the foreigner.

"I remember I was playing Prototype earlier..."

Chang Wei racked his brain painfully, then saw a man appear, dressed in a black leather jacket and wearing a hood, looking very familiar.

"That's... Alex Mercer? A cosplay?"

Chang Wei had just played the game, so he recognized the familiar-looking man. Then, the man was surrounded by people beside Chang Wei.

The sense of déjà vu made Chang Wei's pupils contract, and his mind went blank as though struck by lightning.

By the time he came to his senses, the guy who looked just like Alex Mercer had already smashed something resembling a test tube onto the ground.

"Gasp—!!!"

Chang Wei felt a sharp pain in his left eye. A shard of glass from the test tube had pierced it, and the unknown liquid on it entered Chang Wei's bloodstream.

"Ahhh!!!"

Chang Wei clutched his eye in unbearable agony, but the pain soon passed its limit, and he could no longer feel it.

It was the game!

That was the only thought left in Chang Wei's mind. He seemed to have transmigrated into the world of Prototype, and right at the start, some inexplicably shattered test tube had blinded him. This was way too unlucky.

Of course, he did not know that the Blacklight Virus from the test tube had already entered his body. He only felt dizzy and disoriented, but he still remembered to stay away from Alex Mercer and the people chasing and intercepting him.

"Virus analysis complete. Blacklight Virus DX-1118 C..."

Chang Wei did not know how long he had been unconscious. He only knew that when he woke up, a notification appeared before his eyes saying that he had successfully fused with the Blacklight Virus.

"Super Virus System?"

Chang Wei discovered that the Super Virus System could fuse and optimize viruses, though it required something called "Gene Points." Gene Points came from killing and devouring other organisms.

"I fused with the Blacklight Virus? Then am I human now, or a virus?"

Chang Wei hurriedly felt himself over, and the Super Virus System gave him an answer. He could no longer be considered human, but neither was he a virus. He was a Rampaging new organism, a new human formed after the Blacklight Virus scrambled and reconstructed all his genetic material. The Blacklight Virus had become a part of him.

In the future, he could fuse with other viruses, or he could choose to go all the way and optimize and evolve the Blacklight Virus.

This system of unknown origin did not force him to complete any missions. It seemed very free.

"I'm still too weak right now. I'm probably only a little stronger than Alex right after he was revived..."

Chang Wei pondered what to do next. He needed to hide until the outbreak began, or perhaps investigate where Elizabeth, the mother, was and release her?

But when Chang Wei stepped out of the alley, he discovered that infected were already everywhere outside.

"How long was I unconscious?"

Only then did Chang Wei belatedly realize that he might have been out for a very long time. Otherwise, there would not be so many infected in front of him. This was clearly already an outbreak, while in the Original Plot, the outbreak caused by Alex Mercer at the beginning had quickly been contained by Black Watch.

An infected spotted Chang Wei and charged at him.

Blacklight Virus infected were all incredibly strong. In an ordinary Resident Evil-type world, they would absolutely be classified as mutants or elite zombies, but in the world of the Blacklight Virus, they were commonplace.

Chang Wei saw that both hands of this infected had evolved Blades. He did not dare clash with him head-on at all. The Blades evolved by Blacklight Virus mutation were far harder than metals like steel. With a casual swipe, they could slice open a car's exterior.

He was not like Alex Mercer, a virus turned into a person. Who knew whether his body could recover after being torn apart? So he hurriedly dodged.

Fortunately, his neural reflexes seemed to have become much faster. He dodged the infected's charge, then Chang Wei threw a punch... splat!

The infected's head burst beneath Chang Wei's fist Just like an overripe rotten watermelon.

He felt disgusted, but his body seemed to come alive. Black-red biomass flowed and spread, forming sinuous, snake-like tendrils that pierced into the infected's body.

In less than a moment, Chang Wei's tendrils had completely broken down the infected. Even the blood on the ground was scraped clean.

Then he felt as though something had changed in his body.

"You have obtained 10 Gene Points!"

The system sent a notification.

"Holy shit, was I really this powerful? I just mutated, and I'm already this strong?"

Chang Wei stared at his hand in disbelief. It was spotless; everything from just now had been completely devoured.

Since he was this powerful, what the hell was there to fear?

Unexpectedly, he did not feel any disgust or anything similar. Perhaps those emotions had been suppressed? Or did he no longer produce hormones associated with fear?

Whatever. He was completely excited now and only wanted to begin hunting, to slaughter without restraint!

He was starving!

"What is that thing?"

Black Watch soldiers soon noticed Chang Wei. This man who looked normal tore apart infected with ease wherever he went. One had to know that infected bodies were tough enough to make bullets ricochet. If Black Watch soldiers did not all carry large-caliber automatic rifles and land headshots with perfect accuracy, being super elites, they would have had no way to suppress these infected.

He could tear apart infected bodies so easily, and the strange things surging all over him made the corpses of infected around him disappear. No matter how they looked at it, he resembled a special infected!

Bang!

A bullet hit Chang Wei in the head. The penetrating wound blanked his mind for a moment, but his brain tissue quickly repaired itself, and Chang Wei's ability to think returned.
