The game was set in a fictional world where modern industrial civilization and religious culture had merged. The Divine Kingdom of Dolastrium ruled Earth, while the populace was controlled by mechanized humans known as "Gods."
The eight strongest Gods were known as the Eight Divine Generals, above whom stood the God Emperor, the supreme leader of the Divine Kingdom.
The Gods could gain immense power through "true words" produced by human prayers, creating a rigid, religiously tinged hierarchical society.
Yet this world still faced a problem that even the Gods were helpless against—demons born from the filth of the earth. These "Demon Vritra" indiscriminately attacked human civilization and all living things on the planet, and the Gods had waged a long, drawn-out war against them.
Demon Vritra meant demons that descended, not demons that were subdued.
Chang Wei took Esdeath and the others for a stroll across Vajra Earth.
"So, what are we doing?"
Before Teresa or Scathach could say anything, Esdeath asked.
"Waiting for Asura to regain consciousness."
Chang Wei spoke calmly. It was not as though he could not go into space and wage war against those gods, but this was Asura and the others' destiny. Chang Wei still wanted to see that Asura who burned everything away with his rage.
Just then, a little girl appeared before them.
Chang Wei recognized at once that this little girl was the second female lead, who looked very much like Vajra Earth and Asura's daughter.
This girl had probably been born due to King of Reincarnation's scheme. Since she had appeared, it meant Asura would soon be resurrected from Hell.
"Roar!"
A deafening roar shattered the surrounding calm. A swarm of Demon Vritra in all manner of forms surged in from every direction, targeting the little girl and her family.
