Even if they wanted revenge against him, they could not possibly have found this secret base.

After all, this base contained Hashirama Cells.

Orochimaru suspected that spies within the village had acted, but anyone capable of dealing with both him and Shimura Danzō's Root could not be weak.

What surprised Orochimaru was that neither Bai Chi nor Zhi Zhang had reported him.

They acted as though nothing had happened, maintaining their usual behavior, which left Orochimaru utterly baffled.

Could it be that his status had made them back down in the face of difficulty, choosing to keep silent despite their anger?

After all, he was currently the Third Hokage's disciple and one of the strongest candidates to become the future Fourth Hokage.

At that thought, Orochimaru suddenly felt that becoming Hokage did not seem so bad after all.

Perhaps he could order the Blacklight Clan to obediently cooperate with his research?

Unfortunately, Orochimaru clearly realized that his teacher had already chosen someone else. That position might no longer belong to him.

Since Bai Chi and Zhi Zhang were not reporting him, Orochimaru was happy to let things remain that way.

Otherwise, to placate the Blacklight Clan, his teacher might lock him up. Of course, he would only be imprisoned; they could not possibly kill him.

He knew his teacher's personality very well.

The reason Bai Chi and Zhi Zhang did not report Orochimaru was simply because they did not want to alert the enemy.

Everyone knew what kind of person Sarutobi Hiruzen was: foolish and incompetent, indecisive and hesitant. Even if they reported Orochimaru for harming ninja from the same village, at most he would be captured and have his Chakra sealed. Since that was the case, why waste the effort?
