"Immortal artifact."
Anshi Ming had never expected to hear that term from someone else's mouth again.
According to the family chronicles, there had indeed once been rumors of immortal artifacts. Like Immortal Art, their origins could not be traced. They had existed far longer than the Yong Dynasty and were inextricably linked to the Gate of Heavenly Dao. Yet even during the Yong Dynasty, this information had been an absolute secret. Aside from King Yong and his innermost circle, almost no one else knew anything about it.
Even the An Clan, a great family of sorcery arts in those days, had left behind only scattered fragments of records.
Just who was this man? He actually knew immortal artifacts existed?
Or did he understand nothing at all and was simply spouting nonsense?
Anshi Ming narrowed his eyes, trying to find some clue on the other man's face. Yet the young man's gaze remained calm, as though he did not care in the slightest about this "interrogation." In the candlelight, the brass-patterned mask covering half his cheek reflected warped shadows, as if it were mocking him.
Mocking his ancestors for betraying the Yong Dynasty and fleeing to this desolate island.
Mocking them for falling out of step with the times, never able to return to their homeland.
Anshi Ming silently let out a breath. "Are you certain? As far as I know, immortal artifacts all exist on the mainland."
"Sorcerer Zhang said Yama has an immortal artifact too, and it is within Dong Sheng Kingdom!" King Dong Sheng said cheerfully. "As for the claim that immortal artifacts exist only on the mainland, that's ancient history. I always thought so myself—Yama Island may be small, but it lies where the sun rises. How could it possibly not get a share of the spoils?
