Background

Xu Jie’s original body belonged to a mediocre second-year martial-arts student raised by his mercenary father after his parents’ divorce. Following his father’s reported death outside the city, distant relatives attempted to seize the inheritance left to him. 1

The soul inhabiting the body comes from another world. In his previous life, Xu Jie was trafficked to Southeast Asia at age twelve, escaped by killing his captors at fourteen, joined a local armed group, and spent six years destroying the compound responsible. This experience formed his belief that kindness must be repaid and deep grievances must be avenged. 1

After transmigrating, Xu Jie awakened a system that converts lifespan into cultivation and martial proficiency. He immediately spent nearly all of his lifespan reserve, retaining only one year, to prepare for a rigged practical-combat examination. 1

Despite his distrust of affection and genuine concern, Xu Jie is capable of compassion. The murder of a village girl who had offered him food drove him to pursue and punish the mercenaries responsible, even though doing so exposed him to further danger. 38 39 45
