Girls Who Were No Ordinary People

The train slowly pulled away from the platform, heading toward New York.

Gwen and Kara sat with a seat between them, their eyes meeting with a hint of inexplicable hostility.

Xi Nian, seated between them, was completely unaware. He placed his backpack on his knees, and as he unzipped it slightly, a little orange head poked out from inside.

"A kitten?" Gwen could not help asking in surprise. "Xi Nian, when did you start keeping a cat? And an orange one at that."

"Her name is Little Huang. I found her in the park yesterday. Auntie went out, so I thought it would be better to keep her with me." Xi Nian gently massaged Little Orange Cat's soft chin with the pad of his thumb, and Little Huang wore a comfortable, contented expression at just the right time.

"I used to want to adopt a kitten too." Gwen's beautiful eyes sparkled, finding it utterly novel.

After all, who could resist something cute?

Kara, on the other hand, had shown an unusual look in her sapphire-blue eyes from the moment she saw Little Huang.

"Let me hold her." As Gwen spoke, she reached toward Little Orange Cat. But before her hand could touch Little Huang, the kitten's fur instantly stood on end, and she quickly retreated into Xi Nian's backpack. Through the darkness visible in the gap of the zipper, a pair of eerie vertical beast eyes glowed with a faint green light.

Gwen's body jolted, and she instinctively withdrew her hand at the same time. The tiny hairs on her body also stood on end, as if driven by an animal instinct.

Clearly, both human and beast had been startled.

As an ordinary person, Xi Nian naturally failed to notice Gwen's abnormal reaction.

"What are you afraid of? She's my friend." Xi Nian scolded Little Huang while smiling at Gwen. "Don't mind her, Gwen. This little one is very wary. Other than me, she won't even let Auntie touch her now."

"It's fine. I'm fine." Gwen shook her head, but her eyes could not help staring at Xi Nian's backpack, deep wariness and shock churning within them.

Her Spider-Sense had clearly told her that, for that instant just now, she had felt as though she was about to be "eaten"!

Was it really just an illusion?

"All right, I'll take Little Huang to the train restroom for some water first. She gets a little irritable when she's thirsty too." Xi Nian left his seat with the backpack.

Watching Xi Nian's back disappear into the train restroom, Gwen immediately shifted her attention from Little Orange Cat to the quiet junior sitting beside her. "Tell me. What exactly is your purpose?"

"Senior, what purpose are you referring to?"

Brilliant sunlight streamed through the train window. Kara's originally dark golden hair took on a holy platinum sheen as the youthful, breathtakingly beautiful girl asked curiously, "Wanting to go on a date with Senior Xi Nian—could that count as a purpose?"

"How shameless!" A flush flashed across Gwen's cheeks, along with a trace of embarrassment and indignation. She then lowered her voice. "You can fool others, but you can't fool me. You clearly..."

"Senior Gwen." Kara narrowed her eyes slightly and said bluntly, "You aren't an ordinary person either, are you?"

"So what if I'm not?"

Since the other party had already laid her cards on the table, Gwen admitted it readily.

Back at school, the moment Gwen first saw Kara, an unprecedented sense of danger had welled up inside her.

This sense of danger did not come from some supposed rivalry in love, but from something deeper—something that made her body and mind tremble even more than facing the enormous, powerful Abomination!

"No matter what your purpose is, you can come at me in private. Xi Nian is just an ordinary person!" Gwen quietly clenched her fists, ready to fight at any moment as she faced Kara.

Kara merely brushed back her hair, her little face full of seriousness. "Senior, my standards for choosing a partner are perfectly normal. I have no personal interest in you whatsoever. As for Senior Xi Nian, if someone who isn't ordinary like you can be friends with him, then why can't I become his future girlfriend?"

That actually seemed reasonable?

Gwen raised her delicate brows. She could tell Kara was not someone to be trifled with, but the other girl did not seem to have any intention of hurting Xi Nian.

Thinking back to what had just happened, Gwen asked, "What do you think of that cat?"

"That is no ordinary cat." Kara said seriously, "No. It would be more accurate to say that it merely has an appearance similar to a cat. In truth, whether internally or by species, it has absolutely nothing to do with cats, an Earth species."

Kara propped one side of her face up slightly and mused, "It's my first time seeing a creature like this. Its muscles, bones, and internal organs are extremely unusual, like a mobile miniature Black Hole."

"What? Then isn't Xi Nian in danger being alone with it?" Gwen immediately stood up and looked worriedly toward the completely still train restroom.

"Don't worry, Senior." Kara blinked and said toward the restroom's metal partition, "I've been watching since earlier. That creature is very well-behaved around Senior. It's no different from an ordinary kitten."

"Y-you can see through things?!" Gwen turned back to look at Kara in alarm. Thinking of Kara's earlier analysis of the kitten, how else could she know about the kitten's internal condition if she could not see through things?

That must have been how Kara saw through her as well!

"Of course." Kara nodded as if it were only natural and pointed toward the restroom. "Look, Senior Xi Nian is in there right now..."

"Close your eyes! Stop looking!" Gwen's face instantly reddened. She covered Kara's eyes with her hand, stopping her from peeking toward the restroom.

Kara instinctively raised her hand and lightly pushed Gwen, who had lunged at her.

Then, with a bang, Gwen crashed heavily into the back of the opposite seat, her face filled with shock.

How could that slender, fair little arm possess such terrifying strength?

Kara panicked this time as well and hurriedly apologized, "Sorry, Senior. I-I didn't control my strength properly."

"All I can say is... it's a good thing you did that to me." Gwen let out a breath, dusted off the back of her clothes, and stood up again as though nothing had happened.

A short while later.

Xi Nian returned to his seat with the backpack containing Little Orange Cat, looking at Gwen and Kara in surprise as they "played around" together.

These two beautiful girls seemed to be getting along even better than he had imagined?

When they saw Xi Nian return, Gwen and Kara quickly returned to normal. They sat calmly in their respective seats as though nothing had happened between them, resuming their roles as the aloof mature beauty and the girl-next-door.

Xi Nian was utterly baffled.

Wait, why was there a dent in the back of the seat in front of him?

The train continued onward at a steady speed, drawing closer and closer to its destination—New York.
