The Girls Who Are Not Ordinary

The train slowly pulled out of the station, heading towards New York.

Gwen and Kara, sitting one seat apart, met each other's gaze with a hint of unspoken hostility.

Xi Nian, seated between them, was completely oblivious. He placed his backpack on his lap, and as the zipper was pulled open a tiny bit, a small orange head peeked out.

"A kitten?" Gwen exclaimed in surprise. "Xi Nian, when did you get a kitten? And an orange one, too."

"Its name is Little Huang. I found it in the park yesterday. Auntie went out, so I thought it would be better to bring it with me." Xi Nian used the pad of his thumb to gently stroke Little Huang's soft chin. The kitten, as if on cue, displayed an expression of comfortable enjoyment.

"I've always wanted to adopt a kitten myself," Gwen said, her beautiful eyes sparkling with novelty. After all, who could resist cuteness?

Kara, on the other hand, revealed a peculiar expression in her jewel-like blue eyes the moment she saw Little Huang.

"Let me hold it," Gwen said, reaching her hand towards the kitten. However, before her hand could even touch Little Huang, the kitten's fur bristled, and it quickly retreated back into Xi Nian's backpack. Through the dark gap of the zipper, a pair of eerie, vertically-pupiled beastly eyes began to glow with a faint green light.

Gwen's body trembled, and her hand instinctively retracted. The fine hairs on her body also stood on end, like a wild animal's instinctual reaction.

Clearly, both Gwen and the creature were startled.

Xi Nian, being an ordinary person, naturally didn't notice Gwen's unusual reaction.

"What are you afraid of? She's my friend." Xi Nian chided Little Huang while smiling at Gwen. "Don't mind her, Gwen. This little guy is very wary. Besides me, it doesn't even let Auntie touch it."

"It's okay, I'm fine," Gwen shook her head, but her eyes couldn't help but fixate on Xi Nian's backpack, a deep sense of dread and astonishment surging within her. Her Spider-Sense clearly perceived that, in that very moment, she'd had the illusion of being 'eaten'! Was it truly just an illusion?

"Alright, I'm going to take Little Huang to the train's restroom to drink some water. It gets a bit agitated when it's thirsty," Xi Nian said, leaving his seat with the backpack.

Watching Xi Nian's retreating back as he entered the train's restroom, Gwen's attention immediately shifted from the kitten to the young girl sitting quietly beside her. "Let's talk. What exactly is your purpose?"

"Senior, what purpose are you referring to?"

Bright, brilliant sunlight streamed into the carriage through the window. Kara, her previously dark golden hair now shimmering with a platinum, holy luster, asked with youthful, invincible beauty, "Wanting to go on a date with Senior Xi Nian, can that be considered a purpose?"

"Shameless!" Gwen's cheeks flushed, a fleeting wave of embarrassment and anger washing over her. She then lowered her voice. "You can fool others, but you can't fool me. You clearly…"

"Senior Gwen," Kara narrowed her eyes slightly and said directly, "You're not an ordinary person either, are you?"

"So what if I am?" Since the other party had already laid their cards on the table, Gwen readily admitted it. The first time Gwen saw Kara at school, an unprecedented sense of crisis welled up within her. This crisis wasn't born from mere romantic rivalry, but from a deeper level—it made her body and mind tremble even more than facing the giant, powerful Abomination!

"No matter what your purpose is, you can come at me privately. Xi Nian is just an ordinary person!" Gwen quietly clenched her fist, ready to fight Kara at any moment.

Kara merely brushed a strand of her hair, her small face filled with seriousness. "Senior, my criteria for choosing a partner are very normal, and I have no personal interest in you. As for Senior Xi Nian, if even you, who are not ordinary, can be friends with him, why can't I be his future girlfriend?"

It seemed reasonable? Gwen's delicate eyebrows rose slightly. She sensed that Kara was not someone to be trifled with, but it also seemed the other party truly had no intention of harming Xi Nian. Recalling what had just happened, Gwen asked, "What do you think about that cat just now?"

"That's not an ordinary cat," Kara said seriously. "No. It should be said that it merely has a cat-like appearance. In fact, whether it's its inner nature or its species, it has absolutely no connection to Earth's feline species." Kara propped up one side of her cheek, pondering. "This is the first time I've seen such a creature. Its bones and internal organ structure are very peculiar, like a small, mobile black hole."

"What? Then isn't it very dangerous for Xi Nian to be alone with it?" Gwen immediately stood up, her gaze filled with worry towards the silent train restroom.

"Don't worry, Senior." Kara blinked her eyes and spoke towards the metal partition of the restroom. "I've been watching since just now. That creature is very well-behaved with Senior, no different from an ordinary kitten."

"You… you can see through things?!" Gwen exclaimed, turning back to look at Kara. She recalled the other party's analysis of the kitten just now. If she couldn't see through things, how could she know about the kitten's internal condition? It was probably the same way she had figured out that Gwen wasn't ordinary either!

"Of course." Kara nodded as if it were the most natural thing in the world, pointing towards the restroom. "See, Senior Xi Nian is inside right now…"

"Close your eyes! Stop looking!" Gwen's face instantly turned red as she covered Kara's eyes, stopping her from peeking towards the restroom.

Kara instinctively raised her hand and gently pushed Gwen, who had lunged at her, away. With a "bang," Gwen slammed heavily against the back of the opposite seat, her face etched with shock. Where did that slender, fair arm get such terrifying strength?

Kara panicked this time, quickly apologizing, "I'm sorry, Senior. I, I didn't control my strength well."

"I can only say, thankfully it was me," Gwen sighed, patting the dust off her back. She stood up again, as if nothing had happened.

A short while later.

Xi Nian returned to his seat, holding the backpack with the kitten inside. He looked in surprise at Gwen and Kara, who seemed to be 'brawling' with each other. The interaction between these two beautiful girls seemed more harmonious than he'd imagined?

Seeing Xi Nian return, Gwen and Kara quickly resumed their normal demeanor. They sat calmly and serenely in their seats, as if nothing had happened, returning to their respective appearances of a cold, mature older sister and a girl next door. Xi Nian was completely baffled by this.

Wait, why was there an indentation on the back of the chair in front of him?

The train continued to move at a steady pace, getting closer and closer to its destination—New York.
