The Reverse Side of the World.

That is, the shadows hidden where sunlight can scarcely reach—opposite the surface world laid plain for all to see. Things ordinary people can never truly comprehend.

This reverse side of the world naturally refers to what lies beyond normal human cognition, intimately tied to the transcendent, even born from it.

Superheroes are one of its representative products.

Yet Xi Nian, reborn into this world for sixteen years now, had only ever learned from elementary history textbooks about the birth and legendary path of humanity's first superhero—Captain America. He'd heard people around him mention that Dark Knight of Gotham City—Batman—and his decade-plus vigil over sin.

Though three years ago, the billionaire playboy who inherited Stark Industries built the Iron Suit and became the tech king of New York.

And a year and a half ago, the Kryptonian raised on Earth—Superman—forcibly repelled a Kryptonian Warship from outer space, transforming into the "Man of God."

Even with superhero news flooding every headline and fresh gossip daily without repetition.

Xi Nian always felt these transcendent things on the reverse side of the world were far removed from him.

This distance was like, in his past life. Having always lived in a peaceful superpower, he occasionally learned from the news that modern wars raged on in small countries on the other side of the globe, but that awareness was vague, unreal, impossible to truly empathize with.

The gap between ordinary humans and the reverse side of the world was crueler than the class divide between slaves and nobles in ancient times.

After all, even the saying goes, "The rich rely on tech, the poor on mutation." But whether tech or mutation, crossing the threshold of normal cognition to reach or possess the transcendent was an astronomically low probability—one in ten thousand among humanity.

Xi Nian had given up on becoming transcendent years ago, growing accustomed to the mundane life of an ordinary person.

Until tonight.

First, Xi Nian unexpectedly gained an indescribable transcendent power from his Aunt. Then, outside the city, he encountered Spider-Woman with her Spider Abilities. And now, he was watching a green monster locked in fierce combat with an elite military force.

He had never, not once, until tonight, truly glimpsed—or half-stepped into—the reverse side of this world.

"So the city I've always lived in hides this many transcendent things?" Xi Nian's lips twisted bitterly, feeling his worldview thoroughly shattered.

But thinking that the greatest transcendent of them all was his Aunt, who'd lived under the same roof with him for over a decade, this didn't seem so shocking—yeah, right.

Xi Nian stared in shock at the fierce battle unfolding in the nearby district. Reinforced concrete buildings collapsed and shattered one after another. Gunfire spread to every inch of the streets. The frost and snow falling from the night sky evaporated before they even hit the ground. Bullet casings and rubble replaced white snow, scattering everywhere across the roads.

Yet the human army was utterly on the losing side!

At the center of the city's battle.

A special military vehicle mounted a Gatling gun, its barrel red-hot, spitting tongues of fire. Dense bullets, like a steel torrent, concentrated fire into the deepest part shrouded in flame and smoke. There stood a green giant monster, three to four meters tall, its muscles like lumps of iron, hard and terrifying, with pale white bones protruding. Its body was bare except for a pair of large shorts.

Like the embodiment of terror and ultimate evil incarnate.

One glance sent tremors from the depths of your heart, an endless chill rising from your tailbone!

It had a fitting name.

Abomination!!!

Facing a hail of bullets, Abomination bounced back and forth between buildings and rubble in the streets—agility and speed utterly mismatched with its bloated body. As it moved swiftly, it displayed enough strength to shake the earth and the surrounding district!

Crushing the ground, shattering walls!

Abomination ignored the bullets that didn't even break its skin, landing with thunderous force on a special military vehicle, trampling soldiers and vehicle alike into flattened scrap metal. It casually grabbed an abandoned taxi on the road, lifted it overhead like a sandbag, and hurled it twenty or thirty meters to smash into another military vehicle full of soldiers.

Modern cars, in that moment, were like children's toys!

Boom!!

A rocket-propelled grenade streaked toward Abomination with a trail of flame. Abomination raised an arm to block in front of itself. The explosion's flames instantly engulfed it, and the shockwave shattered every window in the buildings lining the street!

But, but!

What happened next filled every surviving soldier on the field with despair.

There, on the ground where the rocket had exploded, the high-temperature flames swept back along the white bones and green muscles, revealing Abomination's demonic, ugly, and terrifying grinning face—and its unharmed body.

The battle that followed, no! The one-sided massacre, continued!

Watching from afar, Xi Nian frowned deeply.

This green-yellow monster's presence gave him an immense sense of crisis!

Even if he could fall from ten stories without injury now, running into this monster... he might die!

His transcendent perception made Xi Nian's judgment razor-sharp. This monster was a dangerous existence capable of killing him!

"It's already late. I'll just pretend I didn't see this and go home. Aunt will worry."

Xi Nian looked away, unwilling to watch the army being brutally slaughtered one-sidedly in the distance.

He had never wanted to be a superhero. He only ever admired superheroes' abilities.

As for "With great power comes great responsibility"?

If there were no life-threatening danger, Xi Nian would be very willing to lend a hand. But now, he'd be risking his life to act!

It was Spider-Woman, the one he'd met on the rooftop earlier.

"That idiot, don't go over there!" Xi Nian's heart leaped. From their brief clash earlier, he knew full well that Spider-Woman was no match for Abomination!

The gap in strength between them was far too vast!

If Spider-Woman went to face that, there was only one likely outcome—death!

But it was already too late to stop her.

Xi Nian could only watch helplessly as Spider-Woman's slender, petite figure plunged deep into the urban zone where the sounds of gunfire and explosions were steadily fading.

"Sorry. I only have one life, and at most, I can only spend it on those two people!"

Xi Nian gritted his teeth, deciding not to watch any longer. He turned and leaped away in the opposite direction from the city battlefield!
