Hearing that they would be leaving the city tomorrow, Wu Heng's expression changed instantly.
Wasn't the Adventurer's Guild supposed to be an easygoing job? Why was he being sent out of the city for a mission on his very first day?
"Uh, Captain, we already have a mission?" Wu Heng asked.
He was a hundred times unwilling to go out.
He could level up by killing Zombies, while leaving the city would only expose him to all kinds of danger.
Seeing Wu Heng's expression, the captain smiled as well. "Our Adventurer Team was just established, so naturally it won't be anything too difficult. This trip is only to assist Blackstone Town in investigating a few matters. Don't worry."
That eased his mind somewhat.
After all, he had already joined the Adventurer's Guild. It would not be appropriate to say he was not going.
"Alright, Captain. I understand."
The captain nodded. "Mm. Don't be late for our team's first operation."
With that, he stood and left with the long-legged female team member.
Wu Heng stood at the door and watched the two leave the alley before closing the door again.
Outside the alley.
The departing Silver-armored Captain softly asked, "What did you think of the new member?"
"It was our first contact, but he seemed alright. Not the annoying type." After replying, the blonde beauty curiously asked, "Is he really a Necromancer?"
"You saw it too. That skeleton belongs to him."
"The room was too empty. There was even a wooden training dummy in the corner. He didn't seem like a mage, much less a Necromancer," Kalena continued.
Every mage was a scholar. Even if they had achieved nothing academically, they should at least have a few books or some experimental equipment.
Yet there had been nothing like that in the room. It was even somewhat shabby.
"He lives in the crowded district. He's different from those mages with established legacies."
"Mm, true."
The two walked out of the intersection and prepared to part ways.
The captain did not forget to remind her, "Don't be late tomorrow morning."
"Alright, Captain."
After seeing the two off, Wu Heng tightly shut the door.
He picked up the items that had just been delivered and examined them.
The first was an Appointment Letter, bearing the words 'Adventurer's Guild Field Emissary.'
The smaller text confirmed his status as an adventurer and assigned him to Blackstone Town in the Yeke Kingdom.
Besides the Appointment Letter, there was a dark brown piece of Leather Armor and an insignia tucked inside it.
The captain of Fourth Squad and the beautiful woman had both worn this kind of insignia. It was also used to identify their status.
He set the Appointment Letter and insignia aside.
Then he picked up the new armor for a closer look.
The dark brown leather armor bore fine patterns. Metal plates reinforced the chest and shoulders, providing extra protection to key areas.
It had some weight in his hands, slightly heavier than ordinary leather armor, but still within a manageable range.
In this world, weapons were certainly important, but armor with solid defensive capabilities was equally important.
The armor provided by the Adventurer's Guild was superior to the two pieces he already had, both in craftsmanship and defense.
Now, he could be said to own three sets of leather armor.
After examining the delivered items, his gaze fell once more on the skeleton beside him.
Skeleton Rogue Level: 7 (0/14000) Attributes: Constitution 12, Strength 14, Agility 20, Intelligence 10, Perception 10, Charisma 5. Traits: Hollow Skeleton, Basic Soul. Specializations: Two-Handed Finesse, Trap Sense, Intuitive Evasion. Abilities: Sneak Attack, Lockpicking (Intermediate), Disarm Trap (Intermediate), Dual Wielding Proficiency Specialization (Intermediate), Short Blade Proficiency Specialization (Intermediate), Light Armor Proficiency Specialization (Intermediate). Two-Handed Finesse: Allows flexible use of off-hand weapons. Makes the use of grenades, scrolls, and items more nimble and swift. Trap Sense: Skilled at detecting and locating traps set in advance. Intuitive Evasion: Can sense and evade danger through intuition.
No wonder he had made the Wanted List. This was the most impressive set of attributes Wu Heng had seen so far.
He was far stronger than both Wu Heng and the Skeleton Dog.
Wu Heng gave it a rough look-over.
Judging by the attributes, his Agility and Strength were both relatively high, which suited the thief profession.
The Sneak Attack and Lockpicking abilities below also confirmed that.
His specializations were all rather unconventional as well.
But an ability like Lockpicking was not especially useful in Wu Heng's hands. So far, he had not encountered a lock his Bronze Key could not open.
He did not see any particularly powerful skills. The useful one, in his opinion, was Trap Sense, which could detect traps set in advance.
There was also another point: this skeleton's Intelligence had reached 10.
It was already no different from an ordinary person.
He took out the set of leather armor and two short blades the skeleton had originally worn and said, "Put on the leather armor and take up your weapons."
Upon hearing the command, the Skeleton Rogue removed its black cloak, put on the leather armor, and hung the two short blades back at its waist.
"This won't do."
Even with the leather armor on, quite a few areas still exposed white bone.
He would definitely bring the skeleton along for tomorrow's mission. With its bones exposed, it would easily cause panic and invite trouble in a human city like Blackstone Town.
After thinking it over, he retrieved the clothes, trousers, leather boots, and a full-face Motorcycle Helmet that he had stripped from the skeleton in the Zombie World earlier.
"Put everything on."
The Skeleton Rogue put on all the clothes and donned the helmet. Its entire body was wrapped up airtight.
"Not bad!" Wu Heng was quite satisfied.
After some thought, he continued, "You'll still use your old name, Bartholomew. Understand?"
The Skeleton Rogue nodded.
That actually worked?
"Bartholomew, go stand by in the corner."
The Skeleton Rogue obediently walked to the side and stood there like a statue, entering Standby State.
With everything handled, Wu Heng walked over to the wooden dummy and began today's Short Spear Training.
During the break after finishing the first set,
his gaze fell again upon the Skeleton Rogue, whose hollow eye sockets were fixed on him.
"Come on. Practice with me."
The Skeleton Rogue walked over and drew the two gleaming blades from its waist.
"Uh... use wooden sticks." Wu Heng found two short wooden sticks and handed them to it.
If it cut him during practice, that would be a joke.
One man and one skeleton began training.
Late into the night, Wu Heng had the Skeleton Rogue guard the door while he went to bed.
Rumble—!
Wu Heng had never expected that the means of transportation for the mission would be a train.
Calling it a train did not seem entirely accurate. Its power source apparently was not combustion, since there was no chimney like those on old-fashioned trains.
Still, its appearance and tracks were not much different from a train.
"What is that thing it's wearing?" Cavina, the long-legged female team member, pointed at the Skeleton Rogue beside him.
The matte black helmet on its head had caught her attention.
"A helmet," Wu Heng explained.
"I know it's a helmet, but why does it look like that? Who designed it?" Kalena continued asking.
"Uh... I don't know. Is there a problem?"
