The downstairs area was empty. There were no new Zombies.
Wu Heng led the group through the stairwell. The one or two Zombies wandering over along the way were easily killed by the Skeleton Warriors.
They arrived at the Small Plaza within the residential complex. The bus that had crushed the railing was still parked there.
Twenty or thirty Zombies wandered around the center of the modest plaza.
"You lot, move to the front," Wu Heng ordered.
The fifteen spear-wielding Skeletons moved to the very front of the group and, under Wu Heng's command, formed a formation with their spears pointed forward.
"Bartholomew, lure those Zombies over."
Bartholomew stepped out of the group and circled around the distant Small Plaza ahead.
When he returned, a large group of Zombies was already following behind him.
Once he got close, Bartholomew squeezed straight into the Skeleton formation and stood at the very back.
The horde of Zombies lunged directly at the Skeletons in front.
Puff, puff, puff!
Like dim-witted beasts, the Zombies crashed into the spears. Their bodies were pierced by the sharp spearheads, and thick crimson blood flowed out.
There were not many of them, and the battle did not last long.
After the Zombies at the front were killed, the remaining few slow-moving Zombies limped over from afar.
"Go kill the rest and drag them back." Wu Heng patted the dog skull beside him.
Four Skeleton Hounds sprang out and swiftly pounced on the remaining Zombies.
After biting them to death, they dragged the corpses back.
Once all the Zombies had been killed, Wu Heng began casting the Bone Manipulation Technique. Skeletons rose one after another on the spot and joined the rear ranks under his command.
With the Small Plaza cleared out, he led the Skeletons over to the overturned bus.
The driver, trapped by his seat belt, flailed wildly and slapped at the cracked glass.
After directing the Skeletons to kill the driver, he searched the bus as well.
In the trunk, he found a small Fire Extinguisher, a jack, a Spare Tire, and a few other things.
The Fire Extinguisher and jack seemed useful enough to take.
But both were rather heavy, so he left them outside for now and planned to take them when he returned.
After setting those items outside, he continued leading the Skeletons onward to explore.
He led the Skeletons all the way to the West Gate of the residential complex.
Zombies could still be seen wandering outside. He roughly counted eleven or twelve of them, not a large number.
"Spears forward."
The spear-wielding Skeletons pointed their spears ahead and readied themselves.
There was no need to lure them. He simply took a short spear and lightly struck the Iron Door beside him.
Clang~!
The sound instantly rang out, and the Zombies outside turned toward them in unison.
When they spotted the Skeleton Squad at the source of the sound—
They let out furious roars. The roaring rapidly spread, and more Zombies emerged from the corners, the paths, and the buildings ahead.
Their numbers swiftly rose from eleven or twelve to thirty or forty.
All the Zombies fixed their eyes on the Main Gate of the residential complex, then charged over with clawing hands and bared teeth.
"Prepare for battle."
Roar, roar~!
The Zombies drew closer and closer, their roars and pounding footsteps blending into one.
Wu Heng raised a hand and cast the Grease Spell. Grease covered the ground, and Zombies slipped and fell in droves.
At the same time, the Skeleton Warriors began thrusting their spears forward without pause.
Again and again, they pierced through Zombie bodies, drawing blackish-red blood.
Experience gained +6. Summoned Creature—Skeleton Warrior, experience +3. Summoned Creature—Skeleton Warrior, experience +3. Summoned Creature... Summoned Creature—Skeleton Warrior, level increased to 4, Strength +1. Summoned Creature—Skeleton Warrior, level increased to 3, Constitution +1.
The battle continued.
Two Skeletons leveled up in succession, with the highest reaching level 4.
He still had some expectations for the Skeleton Warriors.
Among the Skeletons he had transformed, all those that reached level 5 possessed a Basic Soul.
That led him to suspect that level 5 was a turning point for Skeleton Warriors.
They would all unlock a Basic Soul.
If it truly was as he suspected, and Undead Skeletons all possessed souls and consciousness, he could entirely rely on his own Skeletons to build a nation.
A nation that consumed no resources and had abundant labor.
Thinking about it that way, Necromancers really were rather terrifying.
Amid the fierce clash—
The battle gradually neared its end.
Corpses lay heaped across the ground before the gate, and the scent of blood filled the surrounding area.
He sent the Skeleton Dogs out to kill the remaining slow-moving Zombies, and the entire West Gate fell quiet once more.
"Carry the corpses. Head back!"
The Skeleton Warriors hoisted the blood-soaked corpses from the ground and headed back to their residence together.
After piling them up downstairs, Wu Heng began casting the Bone Manipulation Technique to transform them into Skeletons.
Only when the sky gradually darkened did he lead the Skeletons back to the rooftop, while he himself returned to Blackstone Town.
After dinner—
Wu Heng called Sword One over and continued practicing swordsmanship.
The previous night, he had received Ortluk's guidance and corrected some of his less-than-standard movements.
Both Ortluk and Cavina used swords, but their styles were completely opposite.
Ortluk's sword was a heavy sword—thick and long. Each swing carried tremendous force and howled through the air.
Combined with his muscular build, he gave the impression that he could beat someone to death even with a wooden stick.
Cavina's sword, on the other hand, was a One-Handed Sword, narrow and slender. Such swords were more difficult to forge, and her fighting style emphasized speed and precision.
By the logic of the games he had played before, it was more like an attack-speed build, and her sword techniques looked elegant as well.
It seemed there were different schools of swordsmanship.
For himself, Wu Heng preferred the One-Handed Sword.
He was a mage. There was no need for him to stubbornly focus on heavy swords. If he truly ran into danger, a heavy sword would not be good for escaping either.
After practicing with Sword One for a while, he saw that it was getting late and went to bed.
The next day, at the Adventurer's Guild—
Wu Heng arrived at the lounge with a Backpack on his back.
As soon as he opened the door, he saw Cavina sitting on the sofa reading a newspaper, her left arm wrapped in bandages.
It had to be said, people in this world could really take a beating.
She had been beaten up that badly, yet she had come in again today.
If it had been someone from the Modern World, wouldn't they have needed to stay in the hospital for half a month?
"How are you?" Wu Heng asked with concern.
Cavina put down the newspaper. "I'm fine. I'll be better in a few days."
Wu Heng opened his Backpack, took out several snacks, opened a bag of Potato Chips, and handed it to her. "Try these. They're pretty good."
As the least injured member of the entire team, he felt he should bring some food to check in on his teammates.
After all, the two of them and Bartholomew had held the front line so he could safely fire from the rear.
Honestly, these two teammates were quite reliable.
Cavina raised an eyebrow, picked up a chip, and put it in her mouth. "It tastes good."
"I brought plenty. Help yourself." Wu Heng took everything out of the bag, then asked, "Where's the captain?"
"The captain's in a meeting. He should be back soon."
"Oh."
After the two chatted for a bit, the lounge door opened again, and Ortluk walked in carrying some things.
He glanced at the snacks on the coffee table, then shifted his gaze to Wu Heng.
"The steward wants to see you," he said.
"Oh."
Wu Heng got up, just about to leave, when he heard the captain add, "The Guild is very interested in your weapon. They'll ask you about it. Say what you want to say; you don't have to say what you don't want to."
The Guild had noticed the handgun.
