The Four-Armed Snake Civilization had waited here for thirty thousand years. During that time, they had repeatedly focused their attention on the Dream Lyra, but with past lessons in mind, they set up reminder devices before looking at it—things like striking their own bodies, using pain to wake themselves from obsession.
Although they had been warned not to look too much, once they understood that they were not even a Characteristic Technology civilization, they recognized the limits of their own ability. In turn, this dispelled much of the restlessness and arrogance they had built up from steamrolling everything in their path.
And the reason they could not resist looking at the Dream Lyra was partly because of this. After learning they were not a Characteristic Technology civilization and calming themselves down, the Four-Armed Snakes stubbornly lit a fire of refusal to admit defeat. Their continuous observation of the Dream Lyra was an attempt to understand something from it.
Their scientists and research personnel advanced one after another. When those in front could no longer endure, they would cut themselves to wake themselves up, then let other research personnel continue the observations, trying through this method to find the pattern in the rhythmic movement of the Dream Lyra's exterior and then summarize it mathematically.
The Four-Armed Snakes felt that some secret of the microscopic world had to be hidden within it. In the past, they had never had a chance to explore the ultramicroscopic world. Now that such a concretized existence lay before them, how could they possibly resist looking?
And so, they intermittently observed the Dream Lyra for thirty thousand years.
Unfortunately, that thing was simply not something they could understand. First of all, the Dream Lyra's mode of rhythm was not actually limited to the rhythm of a single
