Addicted to Talking Through Pictures

The Unknown Civilization seemed addicted to communicating through images. They also appeared to understand the meaning of the Digital Dynamic Images sent by humanity. After humanity transmitted the animations as digital signals, they quickly replied with several more Digital Dynamic Images.

The images showed the human fleet moving from outside the Star System toward its interior, only to be blocked en route by a planet-sized digital image. The image flickered on and off, displaying a symbol like a circle containing a hash mark. The human fleet then came to a stop.

Another image showed several small spacecraft flying out from the human fleet and heading into the Star System as well. They too were blocked midway by a planet-sized digital image, but this one displayed a circle without the hash-like symbol inside. The ships did not stop and instead continued forward.

Oh. Humanity understood now. It seemed somewhat like traffic signals. One symbol meant passage was forbidden, while the other permitted passage.

The Unknown Civilization had agreed to let humanity send a Probe Spaceship Squad over for communication.

Sure enough, after humanity dispatched the Probe Spaceship Squad, the Unknown Civilization's own Probe Spaceship Squad simply allowed them to pass.

This Probe Spaceship Squad was not unmanned. There were humans aboard, because they were going there to communicate, and drones definitely would not suffice. There were certainly risks involved, but it was necessary. The relevant experts who boarded the Probe Spaceships had also volunteered to go.
