Shin received a mission from the Third Hokage: use Super Beast Imitation Drawing to fly into the Forest of Death and announce a new rule to all the examinees.
Shin had originally been meant to join Root, but Danzo had died rather early. Not only had Root been disbanded, it had also been wiped out entirely. Under those circumstances, Shin instead joined the Anbu under the Third Hokage.
Although Shin was only fifteen now, he had already become a squad leader in the Anbu, with three Anbu members under his command. He could be considered part of the lower leadership.
His talent was outstanding as well, and his current strength had reached the level of a Special Jonin.
In the original story, Sai called Shin his older brother. Because Danzo had exploited him so harshly, Shin's body had been left with lasting ailments at a very young age.
Then, under Danzo's cruel orders, he and Sai had been forced to kill each other, to determine which one would become an emotionless, cold-blooded tool devoted solely to serving him.
Yet Shin and Sai had instead developed a bond that, though they were not blood brothers, surpassed that of real brothers.
In the end, Shin, whose body had been utterly ruined by overexploitation and whose illness had become terminal, gave Sai every chance to survive.
It could be said that Sai had managed to reclaim his true self after serving under Danzo for so long not only because of his interactions with Naruto and Sakura, but also because of the unerasable bond between him and Shin.
In this life, Shin had joined the Anbu instead, so his body had not been overworked and no lasting illness had been left behind.
Now, he was absolutely healthy!
The fact that he had become an
