"You... you look... I... I... My lord, I was wrong." The young man's knees buckled. He grabbed the wooden table with both hands and barely managed to remain kneeling.
"Hahaha."
Velin could not help laughing at how quickly the young man had gone from arrogance to deference.
Seeing this, the young man laughed along.
As long as Velin did not hold him accountable, a little laughter would not hurt him.
"Now, I suspect you of embezzlement. Go fetch your immediate superior and bring me your personnel file."
The young man let out a long breath, then rose and replied, "Please wait a moment. I'll go right away."
His family had money, so he had never embezzled anything. As for bullying commoners, throw a brick around here and whoever it hit would have ties to a whole string of officials. He would have to want a beating from both his grandfather and his father to try that.
If this man followed the rules, the worst he could charge him with was improper bearing and appearance.
Watching the young man leave without a trace of panic, Velin was fairly sure there was nothing seriously wrong with him. Still, he intended to correct the brat's bad habits.
"Come here."
The security officer standing nearby hurried forward.
He had seen his superior's attitude change clearly enough. The man before him was someone he could not afford to offend.
"What's your captain's name?"
"Galia."
"Full name."
"Galia Raymond."
"Hm?"
Velin blinked in confusion, then asked, "How is he related to Archon Raymond?"
"Our captain's father is the son of Lord Raymond's third son and one of his lovers."
"All right. I understand."
Now that he knew the young man's background, Velin decided to summon Raymond when he got back and discuss how to raise children.
