In the eternal, unchanging, boundless gray mist of the Realm of the Dead, bursts of unnatural thunder suddenly rang out. Sensing the descending will, Death frowned and spoke without turning around.

Because with Thanos gone, the timeline—or rather, the plot—that should have belonged to this multiverse had been severed.
