After reaching the God-Tier, one would inevitably have to undergo a heavenly tribulation unless guided by a Godhood Position or concealed by the God Realm.
For planets of an extremely high level, such heavenly tribulations were descended by the plane itself. For the vast majority of planes, and indeed most regions of the Universe, they were descended by the Universe.
Heavenly tribulations were the power of heaven and earth, the will of nature, the evolution of the Universe's ultimate principles, and even more so, a test for living beings. The Universe wished for its own prosperity, which meant it would not indiscriminately wipe out every lifeform attempting to evolve. However, it followed nature's most fundamental principle: Survival of the Fittest.
The conflict between the God Realm and the Universe lay in whose hands the standard for judging the fittest rested. The trials the God Realm gave living beings were often harsher, selecting the truly strong. Yet it would sometimes favor the strong by granting quotas for their relatives and friends to ascend to the God Realm. That was rather humane, but it ran contrary to the Universe's purpose.
To the Universe, there was only one thing it needed to do: prevent the emergence of living beings that could evolve to the point of threatening its stable existence. Every one of its actions followed this standard.
For bloodlines that Defied Heaven too greatly, it would send down the most powerful heavenly tribulations. For weak lives, it would send down ordinary ones. The Universe required prosperity and stability, which meant it always left a sliver of hope in all things. What it wished to select were existences compatible with Cosmic Law, who understood Cosmic Law, who were acknowledged by Cosmic Law, who followed nature, protected the world, and maintained cosmic order—not those
