But the Netherworld Guardian's ghostly shadows were endless. Once one wave was slain, another came, growing ever more numerous and densely packed. Sha Tongtian fought with all his might, striking palm after palm. Yellow sand danced across the sky, shattering the ghostly shadows that lunged at him.
But every wave of ghostly shadows he shattered weakened his divine soul a little more. His mind grew increasingly exhausted, and the divine soul in his sea of consciousness grew ever weaker. His vision began to blur, and he began hearing things. He could feel his divine soul being eroded bit by bit. If this continued, the Netherworld Guardian might well devour him.
"Sha Tongtian, your divine soul is mine!" The Netherworld Guardian cackled and swept both hands through the air. Countless ghostly shadows formed a massive Ghost Head and lunged at Sha Tongtian. The Ghost Head was as large as a house, with two eerie green flames for eyes. Its mouth opened to reveal rows of fangs, letting out a scalp-prickling shriek. That shriek pierced straight into his sea of consciousness, leaving him dizzy. Sha Tongtian felt as though his head were about to burst.
Sha Tongtian's expression grew grave. He bit the tip of his tongue, the sharp pain barely keeping him conscious. Forming seals with both hands, he poured every last bit of spiritual power in his body into the Sand Gate Great Hand Seal. Yellow sand gathered before him into an enormous wall, several zhang thick and solid as bedrock.
The Ghost Head slammed into the sand wall with an ear-splitting shriek. The wall shuddered violently, sand and stones cascading down. Beads of sweat the size of beans seeped from Sha Tongtian's forehead, and his hands trembled slightly. Yet he gritted his teeth and held firm.
