Ch. 961Twelve Emperor Lords
Key plot points
- Hardliners in the Seventh Heaven decide to invade the Fourth Heaven and destroy the Purple Cloud Palace. They plan to recruit or coerce factions in the Fifth and Sixth Heavens into serving as expendable vanguard troops, weakening the Palace and testing its defenses.
- The conservative Qingxu Abbey leaders, Qing Xu and Moonlight, judge that the expedition is reckless: Lin Feng killed powerful opponents ten years earlier and may be much stronger now. But with no conclusive intelligence and no authority to stop the hardliners, they choose to fortify their own territory and secretly monitor the Fourth Heaven.
- At the Purple Heaven Palace, Lin Feng senses the coming threat and welcomes the prospect of a challenge. Dong Xuan, Lin Man, Ding Yun, and several other Emperor Lord-level allies gather behind him, ready for battle.
- The hardliners assemble twelve early-stage Emperor Lords, along with powerful weapons and formations. Their three-stage plan is to force the lower heavens’ factions into the vanguard, break through the Fourth Heaven’s defenses, then surround and kill Lin Feng and seize his inheritance and resources.
- Three Emperor Lords—Black Baleful, Ice Soul, and Blood Refining—are assigned to lead elite Emperor Venerables to pressure the Fifth and Sixth Heavens. The main force will train and prepare, with the invasion set to begin in one month.
Character developments and interactions
- Qing Xu is cautious and pragmatic: unable to stop the invasion, he orders defensive preparations and surveillance rather than risking his own factions.
- Moonlight voices concern and accepts Qing Xu’s decision, recognizing the limits of their influence.
- Lin Feng appears calm and confident, anticipating the attack rather than fearing it. His allies silently align themselves with him.
- Heavenburning drives the hardliners’ campaign with confidence and aggression. Absolute Sword and Blood Refining openly covet Lin Feng’s inheritance, resources, and followers; Luo Tian rebukes Blood Refining for focusing on personal indulgence instead of the larger objective. Windhearing presents the invasion plan, while Black Baleful volunteers to handle coercion.
Significant themes
- Arrogance and greed: The hardliners underestimate Lin Feng and are motivated by conquest and plunder.
- Caution versus aggression: The conservatives prioritize survival and evidence, while the hardliners rush toward war.
- Uncertainty and looming conflict: Both sides lack reliable knowledge of Lin Feng’s current strength, making the coming campaign a dangerous test.
- Power and coercion: The Fifth and Sixth Heavens are treated as expendable tools by stronger factions.
