Just as the remnants of the Death Guard began to rout and the Dark Angels warriors erupted in cheers of victory, preparing for the final cleanup, an unexpected change occurred.
From deep within the fortress-monastery, the Rock, came a low, unnatural hum.
It did not come from engines, nor from weapons fire. It sounded more like the wail of space itself, the howl of reality being forcibly twisted.
Then, in a region of space outside the fortress that had just endured fierce battle and was littered with wreckage, the void tore open like a shattered mirror!
A massive, unstable Warp rift, its edges flickering with eerie light, suddenly yawned wide!
Within the rift was not the usual kaleidoscopic tide of the Warp, but a strange sight that seemed to reverse time—the dense forests of Caliban, long vanished, and ancient-painted spacecraft engaged in a furious battle above them!
A familiar yet distant presence rushed forth from the other side of the rift.
It was... the scent of home! The scent of Caliban before its destruction!
Lion El'Jonson abruptly raised his head, his gaze like lightning as it pierced the void and locked tightly onto the rift.
His massive body trembled slightly. The faint confusion left over from awakening after ten thousand years of sleep vanished completely in that instant, replaced by an extraordinarily complex surge of emotion—shock, nostalgia, pain, and... an irrepressible impulse.
He recognized that starfield. He recognized the models of those ships.
It was a scene buried deep in his memories, one that had happened not long ago—the Calibanite civil war, the final battle between himself and Luther, the foster father and brother he had once trusted most.
"That is..." a Grand Master near the Lion King whispered in disbelief.
"Caliban... Caliban from ten thousand years ago!" Another Librarian
