The massive convoy began to move, the roar of its engines merging into a torrent of steel. The fortress's heavy gates slowly opened, revealing an apocalyptic scene drenched in blood and gun smoke, with the sky stained dark red.

Leona jumped down from the Land Raider and boarded her specially modified command Thunderhawk Gunship. Tycho and Cassius boarded their own vehicles as well.

Like a drawn sword, the assault force drove out of the fortress and charged without hesitation into the Chaos-Corrupted land.

Almost the instant they left the fortress's defensive perimeter, the attack began.

Small groups of daemons and Chaos Traitors burst from the ruins and gullies along the flanks, attempting to harass the assault force's sides.

The Blood Angels veterans swiftly shattered those harassing attacks with precise bursts of fire and fierce countercharges.

Whirlwind Missile launchers and Basilisk artillery roared from time to time, blasting distant enemy formations that were trying to gather into scattered remnants.

The sky was no calmer.

Several Lightning Fighters attempting to provide close air support for the troops engaged in a fierce aerial battle with Daemon Engines wrapped in Chaos energy flying in from the direction of Hera City.

Shot-down craft occasionally trailed thick smoke as they plunged toward the ground, exploding into balls of fire.

The Indomitable Truth's orbital fire support arrived as scheduled.

Massive lances of light, like the judgment of the gods, occasionally tore through the dark-red heavens and struck with precision at large enemy concentrations detected ahead or suspected heavy-unit positions, clearing obstacles for the assault force.

Each lance strike triggered an earth-shaking explosion, temporarily clearing an area.

But the enemy's resistance remained stubborn.

The closer they drew to Hera City, the denser the daemons became, and the more severe the Chaos Corruption grew.

The ground became muddy and
