Background / History

Huang Shaojie is a modern man who awakens after transmigrating into the body of his historical counterpart: the formerly wastrel son of wealthy Suzhou merchant Huang Baiwan. His father secures him an Imperial Guard position through a bribe to Squad Leader Zhu Shi. On reporting for duty, Huang obtains the Capture God System, the Insight Technique, and the opening forms of the Wind God Leg. 1

He rapidly distinguishes himself in the Suzhou Imperial Guard by exposing and capturing a Japanese Pirate spy, then rises from Captain to Squad Leader. His victories in major investigations—including the Tax Silver Robbery Case, Japanese Pirate conspiracies, and the pursuit of the Seven Great Villains—lead to repeated promotions and transfer to the Capital. 6 16 27 90

In the Capital, Huang becomes a central Imperial Guard operative against Japanese spies, criminal societies, and political threats. His accomplishments bring him into contact with the Pacification Commissioners, the imperial court, Prince Ning, Princess Pingyang, and rival restoration forces. 151 177 227 333

He later commands military operations against Annan, Japanese Pirate invasions, and Persia. His battlefield achievements earn him major court titles, while his personal power reaches the Peak Great Grandmaster realm. 336 412 458 468

Appearance

Huang Shaojie is described as tall, well-built, handsome, and refined, with sword-like eyebrows, star-like eyes, a high nose bridge, and an elegant bearing. 234 356 466

  • Around eight chi tall, with a slender but strong physique. 308
  • Often wears official Imperial Guard attire, including a blue Squad Leader brocade robe and later a Flying Fish Robe. 16 356
  • Uses disguises extensively, including a fake mustache and complete alterations to his face and build. 234 308
  • In battle, is seen in a red cloak while flying on a sword. 417

Personality

Huang Shaojie is composed, practical, and highly confident in his abilities. He initially prefers the comfortable life of a pampered young master over career ambition, but repeatedly accepts dangerous cases and responsibilities when circumstances demand it. 7 90

He is observant and strategic, frequently using deception, disguise, feigned weakness, and interrogation to obtain information before acting. His Insight Technique reinforces his investigative style, allowing him to draw conclusions from crime scenes, portraits, and hidden mechanisms. 49 105 138 233

Despite his ruthlessness toward enemies—particularly spies, assassins, traffickers, and invading forces—he shows loyalty to those close to him. He protects Huang Manor, values Xiao He’s safety, repays Lu Changkong’s kindness, and earns soldiers’ loyalty by crediting their courage rather than claiming all glory for himself. 62 92 152 416
