Most of Konoha's jonin had returned to the village today.
Because today was the day the Fifth Hokage would be chosen.
The Ninja Academy's graduation, which was originally scheduled for this time, had also been postponed because of the Hokage reelection.
There was a huge plaza in front of the Hokage Tower.
Today, the plaza was already packed with people.
A podium had been set up in the plaza, with an electronic screen behind it. On either side stood all of Konoha's current high-ranking officials, as well as the heads of the major clans.
The Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, Mitokado Homura, and Utatane Koharu were also there.
In the main venue stood many of Konoha's jonin, with nearly all of the younger generation of jonin present.
The Third Hokage's son, Sarutobi Asuma, stood among them with his girlfriend, Kurenai Yuhi.
Torifu Akimichi had also made a rare appearance at the venue. However, because of injuries from his youth and his advanced age, his health was no longer very good.
Several juniors from the Akimichi Clan carried a massive armchair for him, and he sat in the last row.
Earlier, Uchiha Shamu led the Uchiha group, along with those who had returned from the Hidden Sound Village.
They were the first to enter the plaza.
Within the group, Yoya kept looking around while muttering under his breath, though no one knew what he was saying.
Tsunade entered the plaza with Shizune and a group of medical ninja she had assembled from Konoha's medical system.
Though they were fewer in number, medical ninja were far more valuable than ordinary ninja, and their presence was no less imposing than Uchiha Shamu's.
Sasuke stood with Shamu's group, while Naruto stood behind Tsunade.
