  • Kuzan clarified that they were going to Impel Down to do Marine work, and Garen told Buggy he could no longer leave.

Ch. 228Buggy, the Lone Hero

Magellan ordered the guards to suppress the Level Five riot while Level Six prisoners escaped through the tunnel, and he ordered the harbor warships destroyed to prevent their escape. At Impel Down, Buggy fled to a warship, freed Momonga and other Marines, and found Whitebeard guarding the ship just as the prison’s artillery opened fire.

  • Magellan learned that the Level Five prisoners were rioting and the Level Six prisoners had escaped, then sent the guards to Level Five and ordered the harbor warships destroyed.

  • Impel Down's artillery opened fire on the warship as Buggy cried for help.

Ch. 229"World Escaped into the Open"

Garen and Kuzan faced a group of powerful prisoners who had escaped from Impel Down’s sixth level, but World broke through their ice barrier and led eight prisoners to the harbor. There, they found the only surviving Sea Stone Warship occupied by Whitebeard.

  • Garen and Kuzan discovered that the prisoners on Level One were actually powerful criminals from the sixth level, including World, Shiliew of the Rain, and several others.
  • Kuzan used Ice Age to block the prisoners, but cannon fire revealed Magellan’s plan to sink the harbor’s warships and prevent an escape.
  • World boosted his speed and enlarged a musket bullet to smash through Kuzan’s ice wall, then escaped with seven other prisoners while Kuzan held back the rest.
  • World’s group reached the harbor and found the docked warships destroyed, except for one Sea Stone Warship where someone was fighting.
  • World demanded that the people aboard surrender the ship, and Whitebeard appeared at the edge of the deck.

Ch. 230Buggy Shows His Might

Whitebeard protected the warship from Impel Down’s bombardment, defeated Momonga, and then fought Byrnndi World and eight Level Six prisoners who tried to seize the ship. After the battle left Whitebeard battered and Impel Down’s harbor in ruins, Marines mistook Buggy, who stood unharmed before him, for the victor.

  • Whitebeard destroyed the cannon barrage with Air Quake and collapsed much of Impel Down’s upper structure with Quake Blade: Shattered Jewel.
  • Whitebeard defeated Momonga after the Vice Admiral tried to damage the warship, while Buggy could barely withstand Whitebeard’s Conqueror’s Haki.
  • Byrnndi World and eight prisoners demanded Whitebeard’s ship, so Whitebeard fought them to protect it and eventually knocked them unconscious.
  • Whitebeard found Buggy trying to sneak away after the battle, as the Marine soldiers began waking on the damaged harbor.

  • Garen chose Braun, a giant prisoner attacking the ice wall, as his target and struck his armored knee, but barely wounded him.
  • Braun revealed that he was the Armor-Armor Fruit user, then attacked Garen with a barrage of armored fists.
  • Garen used Demacian Justice to burn Braun through his armor, but realized the giant could withstand a prolonged fight.

  • Garen fought the cow-man and the other prisoners, taking heavy damage while struggling to hurt their armored bodies.
  • The cow-man realized Garen was weakening and urged the prisoners to keep attacking, so Garen called to Kuzan for the items he had left in the corridor.
  • Garen used Twilight of the Gods to reach the bundle, then returned with live fish that the prisoners mistook for a secret weapon.
  • Garen sliced the fish into sashimi and used life steal to refill his Health Bar.

Ch. 235A Worthy Opponent

  • Garen killed the minotaur by impaling his skull with his greatsword during the minotaur’s Savage Charge.
  • Garen challenged the remaining prisoners, hoping they would attack while his Health Bar refilled.

San Juan brought Teach and the mass of prisoners up to Impel Down’s highest level, where Garen and Kuzan confronted them. Teach revealed Garen’s friendship with the pirates and revolutionaries and insinuated that Kuzan was also involved, leaving Hannyabal unsure whether either ally could be trusted.

  • Hannyabal emerged from the elevator and apologized for failing to stop San Juan, while Kuzan and Garen told him they would handle the giant.
  • San Juan smashed through Impel Down’s ceiling and placed Teach, Ace, Sabo, Jinbe, Whitebeard Pirates, Revolutionary Army officers, and other prisoners before Garen and Kuzan.
