News that the Night City Police Department had retaken control of the Psycho Squad did not remain hidden for long among those in the know. Or rather, once the cyberpsychos' corpses were carried out of the Municipal Criminal Justice Complex one by one, the whole matter could no longer be kept secret from insiders.
With the ownership of the Psycho Squad, arguably Night City's most powerful official force, finally settled, three names began appearing frequently on the agendas of major corporations.
The first was Commissioner Johnson. Not only did he command the two core forces of the Night City Police Department—the Special Operations Team and the Psycho Squad—but he also held jurisdiction over the entire department.
The second was Andy, captain of the Special Operations Team and now the Psycho Squad's de facto manager.
And the third was a name everyone had long since come to know—KK.
Every corporation's data terminal contained KK's complete file—from his unverifiable origins to the timestamp of his first appearance in Night City; from the bloody trail that had made his name to the contact number currently used to hire him.
Naturally, those files also included his relationship with NCPD Commissioner Johnson, one that could never be formally documented.
Most corporate executives knew the two were "friends," but that word had always carried an ambiguous meaning in Night City. Whenever Johnson's promotion record was projected onto the Board of Directors' holographic screen, no one could say how many of those steps had been paved by KK.
No one could say exactly how much KK had contributed to the rise of such an outstanding officer as Johnson. They only knew this: whenever an "obstacle" appeared in Johnson's path, the position in question would always conveniently become vacant.
